T-Shirt quilt

I'm starting to piece the top of a T-Shirt quilt for my husband. I'm thinking of tying it, and was wondering if anyone else had thoughts on using this technique for a t-shirt quilt? This is only my second quilting project after making a baby quilt, so any suggestions would be welcome!

Lin - are you using any kind of stabilizer behind your t'shirt pieces? It will keep your blocks square as you work with them as t'shirt material tends to stretch.
If you iron any of your t'shirts, make sure you place another fabric over top of your t'shirt or some of the lettering could lift off. Go ahead, ask me how I know!
I think tying your quilt to finish it would be a good idea. I made 3 I SPY's last year for my kids and used clothing, patches they earned, etc and tried to hand quilt it through the stabilizer. The first one I totally handquilted. The 2nd one was half hand and half machine and the 3rd was all machine. But I know lots of people who tye them and they look great!!

Yes, definitely got the stabilizer. I can only imagine how it would end up without it. These tshirts are all old concert shirts that he never wore and I was sick of storing them! I think I heard him choke when I started cutting... So I'm taking this project slowly so it turns out well. In the mean time I just pieced a jelly roll quilt
For a graduation gift for a friend of mine. I plan to machine quilt that this week.
