    Charm Packs

How many Charm Packs (5"blocks) will I need for a King size quilt?
How many would I need if I alternate with solid color Charm Pack? How many solid?

Is there a formula to do this?

    Re: Charm Packs

Well, 5 charm packs make a single quilt so for King size that would be 10 charm packs plus borders and binding, depending on how much overhang you want as to how many borders. I'm working on a single for our extra bedroom. It is fun to make one of these. I worked on part of it so much in one day that I dreamt about it that night. My husband said I talked in my sleep and he wondered what the heck was going on as I kept saying "time to open another charm pack and sew, sew, sew." LOL Then again he asked me one day when my friends were here, were you guys talking about baked goods all night. I said no why? He said, " All I heard was jelly rolls, layer cakes, and desert rolls." I said we were talking about quilting. He just got the most confusing look on his face and replied, "You sew with baked goods?" Our poor husbands are in a constant state of confusion LOL.

Sorry I didn't answer your questions. I sewed 2 charms, and then 2 into 4's and 4's into rows. I guess if you wanted to get 4 or 5 charm packs in solid colors you could do a diamond shape in the middle and then surround it with patterns. What ever you can dream up. I'm just doing mine randomly and they are all patterned not solids. The sky is the limit. You probably have a more creative way with things than me. I'm just sewing them together. I do try to break up the colors and scatter them around. I know I'm not much help am I. Just let the creative juices flow and have fun with it. This is my first charm pack quilt so I don't know much and I am just playing with them. Did you watch Jenny's tutorial? Look to see what she did or maybe go to "Ask the MSQC girls" and post there. I'm sure there are more creative people than me that have done at least one of these. Sorry I'm not much help. Ask around I'm sure someone will have a good idea.

I love your quilt Tankgirl. It turned out so nice and you really are good at matching points.
But I have said that before after looking at your album. You do good work. You will be a Master in no time. Hugs, Jan
