    Newbie here..Quilt sizes?

    Hi
Wanting to make a lap quilt. I have read the size is 50x60,I assume that would be 5 squares across and 6 squares down.
How do I determine the square size for that size?

    Welcome from Sunny Florida.

Which pattern are you using? If you're wanting 50x60 with no borders, your blocks would need to be 10.5"... if there's a border, or sashing, the blocks can be smaller.

    Hope that helps.

I agree with Katrina and it would be easier to pick out your pattern first. So many of them have size choices too.

You may want to start with something easy. Maybe a rail fence quilt. Or just plain blocks. A lap quilt can be any size you prefer. 50 X 60 is just an approximate size. All depends on the size block you make. Check out some YouTube videos from Eleanor Burns or Missouri star

I saw in your other post you are making it with shirts. Are you using tees or regular fabric? what i would do is break them down first to see what you have to work with. There is a video called deboning shirts (for the cottons) to check out. Then maybe look up memory quilts in images to get some ideas. So if you break them down first you can see what you might have to add for the size and how many you want to make. Pillows are good too if it's too overwhelming.
