    Question - Table Runner

I am a new quilter and working on my first project - a table runner. The pattern says that after you put it together you can sew straight lines along the seams. My question is if this requires the walking foot and adjusting the feed dogs - or can I just sew it on the seams just like I'm doing regular sewing. I've done so much reading about the quilts that I'm not sure what do with a smaller project like a table runner.

    Any help is so appreciated!

You do need a walking foot for that. It is called "In the Ditch". Jenny has a tutorial about in the ditch quilting.

If you don't have a walking foot, you could always hand tie it. Hope this helps!

Hillbilly is right; a walking foot helps out a bunch. If you are using a thinner filler, like flannel, you could get by with just a regular foot. I have done both ways. On something smaller like a runner, I have used flannel as the batting many times. Makes the quilting quicker for me and lies nicely on the table. But as I said; I have done both ways.

If you don't have a walking foot, they are not too expensive. I have purchased one off of ebay in the past for another machine. There are several ebay stores that specialize in sewing accessories; great resource for different feet, when you live in the boonies like I do.

I've looked online for a walking foot for my Singer Touch and Sew but haven't found any that work. Is there anything else I could be looking for? I've done "in the ditch" quilting on a throw pillow with the regular foot. Thanks for suggesting flannel, I have a runner in mind and that might work.
