I'm Thinkin This Needs a Border?

What do you think? I apparently have this hang up that my quilts don't look "finished" unless they have a border This is "Autumn Shoo Fly" from the Mc Call's Quick Quilts Nov/Dec 2010 issue and I LOVE IT! It was SO easy and I knocked it out this afternoon, in between making dinner and running to the store for more fabric as I'm making one noShooFly30s2.jpgw w/Christmas strips!

I love the 30s Repros and so I did this with one jelly roll and white background from our DOD, here.

uhhhhhh, so ... yah, what the heck happened w/the pics here?!

The design makes it look like it already has a border, and some quilts don't need borders...really, they don't. I'd just bind that, maybe in your white to frame it, that would give it a nice clean finish. It's lovely by the way, I really like it. I've seen several quilts done with the one very large block and I think they are great.

I am with you - seem to always "need" a final border all the way around - makes a frame i guess.

for this one (very nice btw) i would use the white in the same width as the strips (2.5 i guess) and then a another white for the binding to complete.

I agree with Lynn, it looks like it has a border already. I like the fabric you used. Great job!

Like it a lot! in my humble opinion, it may be need a with border with a thin bingind of all the differnt colours that you use, just to frame the patchwork. Let me know what was the outcome. all the best

Hey Lynn! Thank you so much for your input. In the magazine and according to the directions, they do not have an additional border, just the white for binding and that's it. I think you're right in that it would make a nice, clean finish. One large block is my favourite, coz it's easy! Thank you for the compliment

Hey Magx! I was thinking along the same lines so I laid some of those scraps around it in various ways to see what it would look like as a border and it was just too busy. So, I came here to ask opinions Thank you so much for your input I appreciate it! I'll post a pic when I'm finished with it

Well since you asked, I would agree with Lynn! It just needs a white binding and nothing else. I am very impressed at how beautiful it is and how quick you did it. But I won't get mad if you don't listen to me and Lynn, it is your project, right? BTW I saw you peeking over the top of your quilt. LOL
