    Newbie q :: Washing a quilt.

    Im nearly done stitching on the bias for my first quilt... I've heard washing it will improve it ten-fold... Do I put it in the dryer? Or let it air-dry? I live in Seattle, so that could take a long time.

    I wash my quilts on the delicate cycle in cold water with gentle detergent (not Woolite) and I put in two color catcher sheets (made by Shout and found in the laundry department). The sheets will catch any dye that happens to wash out of the fabric. I dry my quilts on low heat until they are almost dry but still a little damp and then I spread them on the bed and let them finish air drying. If you have a ceiling fan that speeds things up.

        I wash on delicate with color catchers and dry on low.

          Ditto what Bubby posted. Congratulations on finishing your first quilt -- we'd love to see pictures!
