the binding tool is 8 3/8" long. I just got mine a couple of weeks ago and am planning a friendship braid quilt too. I love the look of it on the tutorial and it looks fun to do as well!
You could always get the fabric for sashing and if you decide not to use it, you have an addition to your stash for a future quilt! I always have trouble making decisions like that too!

I love the binding tool too. It works well and the fact you can use it for a template is just too cool. That Jenny and her light bulb moments. she is just brilliant. I want to make a friendship braid quilt too. Got too much going on right now tho. It will be on my bucket list.

I loved your friendship braid....I think Im going to have to hire a consultant on colors LOL...mine never look that pretty put together.
On the mountain here I can get most fabrics for 3.99 a yard....yes Im spoiled but I will be dipped...
last night I cut a bunch of fabric into the 2 1/2 inch strips and watched Jenny's tutorial on the braid...well I missed the part about keeping the tool correct all my braids go the same way...LOL
so back to the mountain I go and this time Im not confessing I just ...cannot follow directions haha..
I may just have to rename myself ....queen of the precut kits.....hmmm that wont work im too cheap LOL

Ohhhh, SusieQ, I love your braid you have started! That's saying alot because I usually don't care much for the batik type of fabrics, but yours have converted me. They are beautiful. Such great jewel tones. Laura, just keep working with your colors, I am sure they are fine and you just 2nd guess yourself too much, which is what I do too. Just look how well those all go together and they are from just about every color spectrum out there...amazing!
thanks so much for sharing, and thanks- (LOL) because I will now have to slowly start adding batiks to my stash! Darn-it-all anyway! LOL LOL

                            Re: the binding tool

Thanks everyone for the compliments! I too am a bit color challenged, so I buy those jelly rolls that have it all together for me. I tend to not pay attention to lights, darks, etc on a quilt, and I know I should but I like them all so I put 'em all in something if I like it and sometimes, it is a bit off. I was not ever conscience of this until a bunch of us ladies on another site made quilts for a woman and her 4 kids due to their house burning and we had so many blocks left I was able to put 2 more quilts together and we decided to give them to 2 of the ladies in the group that were have health problems. One of them complained publicly about how the colors didn't match and I was so hurt, I wasn't thinking colors, I was thinking all the love that was going into the quilt for her. I haven't let it stop me, and the good that came out of it was I am more color conscience now of what I use, which is a good thing!
Back to the sewing table, I am off today, and working on a black and white paisley Stack and Whack from our own "Jenny". She makes it so easy to do this pattern! I love it!!! (Hope I am not out of line posting a pic here of it). If so please let me know and I will remove it.

                            Happy Sewing Day everyone!

That is so pretty. I love black and white quilts. Shame on that lady for saying what she did. I would have been so grateful someone cared enough to make me a quilt. I'm sorry that happened to you.
