    Courtyard Cabin free pattern download

They are releasing so many beautiful free patterns and this one has stolen my heart. Rated Intermediate, finishes at 88 x88 in deep dark fall colors. It is a carpenters star surrounded by flying geese. Full color instructions throughout.

That is beautiful! Thanks for sharing, I downloaded it but I don't know if I'll get to it any time soon. So many half square triangles!

It's a beauty. I think this one would be a long term sewing project for me.

God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The stash to make a quilt to help me cope,
A quilt to give to comfort those I love in times of hurt, fear and uncertainty.
And the courage to keep on sewing when life itself seems held together by a single thread of hope.

Love it! I love patterns that look very complex and complicated to make but are actually relatively simple. This has a lot of HST's, but they are easy to do and they come together here to make a gorgeous quilt! Thanks for posting!

I love it, but wonder if changing the fabrics and being more scrappy would ruin the overall look? Keeping track of colors by letter has always been difficult for me, but if the background fabric was a dark color and all of the others were bright/jewel tones, do you think it would still be as stunning overall? Hmm...

Squeaky, I find it really helps me to make a swatch chart, similar to what the pattern shows on pp. 2-3. I cut a small sample of each fabric (usually, I do 1" x 1") and paste it next to the letter. That swatch chart is my guide; I keep it near my cutting table for the duration of the project.

As for making it scrappier, I think it would still be stunning IF you are careful to keep the same degree of contrast and value. Part of the beauty of this quilt is the subtle gradation of the flying geese colors and the square-in-a-square colors. Even if you substitute different fabrics, you will still have to keep track of where each piece goes.
