I am always making triangles and it seems sometimes I don't have the exact fabric size that the directions call for and I'm just trying to make something with the fabric at hand. And I've got a spreadsheet for making HST one way and another spreadsheet for making them Jenny's way and yet another for making them from strips. Most of the time I can't find the one sheet I'm needing.
I got tired of shuffling through all those spreadsheets. So I created one with all the methods I use. There are 5 ways to make HSTs that I know of (there are probably more, but these are the ones I use):

I highlighted the standard precut sizes so I could find them easier. And I drew a little picture to help me see how I need to draw and cut the square to get the triangles I need.
I hope this sheet helps you as much as it has helped me.

- 2 at a time (draw a line diagonally on a square, sew 1/4" along the line)
- 4 at a time (Jenny's way: sew around the edges of the squares, cut twice)
- 8 at a time (draw two diagonal lines, sew 1/4" along the lines, cut 3 times)
- strips (sew into a tube, then cut 45° at the edges, and pick out the tiny seam)
- strips (same as 4, but the 45° is at the sewn seam, not the edge, no picking out seam)
