DON'T DO THIS WHEN YOU HAND TIE YOUR QUILT!!!

I wanted to repost this so that everyone could see what I did.

After getting all your great input regarding my quilt that didn't lay flat after spraying, pinning, etc. I decided to hand tie my quilt and not add anymore STD or decorative stitching to it. I decided to hand tie the quilt and couldn't figure out why the red cotton thread was not staying tied like the white thread was. It seems that the red cotton thread has a sheen to it and a slippery feel to it and the white cotton crotchet thread did not. So needless to say the red thread is at fault. So next time I will remember to buy the exact same kind of crotchet thread. Lesson learned, lol. Now I have to go back and redo all the red thread and change them to white. Yes and they were all hand tied in a square knot.

Tiny tip.... If you get your thread wet before using it to tie, the knots should stay, as the thread dries it expands and thus making your knot tight. I tie baby quilts and never had one come undone. I do a double wrapped knot.

If you make a surgeon's knot, they will not untie themselves. To do that knot, start out just like for a square knot... you know... cross over the threads (legs) and one goes into the loop, etc... but put that thread through the loop 2 times, then 2 times for the other "leg". That knot is permanent!

Sorry your knots untied......I just use embroidery thread..(all the strands thickness..)...and just the square knot.....like you used....but I like the idea of the surgeons knot......I'm gonna try that......
