    Dresden plate tutorial

Just saw your dresden plate tutorial. Great job! I thought the tutorials were not coming till September. This was such a pleasant surprise. I have made two plates, but have not done the center yet. Thanks for tips. Now I am anxious to get back to them and maybe make them into a wall hanging. Thanks again for these videos - they are awesome!

                  Hi,

I have recently purchased this ruler and LOVE IT!! So far I have done 2 plates short of the middle circle using the caroler charm packs and I have ordered another caroler charm pack today so I can get my third plate. I could have gotten away with what I ordered the first time but the colors I chose to make the plates didn't include the blues, blacks, and prints with white background. I'm new to quilting/sewing altogether.

I am going to experiment with making hourglass blocks out of the squares I don't use for the dresden runner.

                  Glad to see you here!

                    Re: Dresden plate tutorial

Like I said in another post, the Dresden Plate is on my "Bucket List" of quilting projects to learn how to do.
I love this tutorial and have watched it several times, and, no doubt, will watch it several more times! Jenny makes it look so easy!! (I love how the videos give me the confidence and courage to try new things!!)

I do have a question though, I've never used the fabric spray adhesive, but would this help in positioning the plate onto the back ground fabric while hand stitching it in place, or would it seep through the fabric and cause stains? In theory, the spray adhesive seems like a good idea, but I'm to nervous to try it :? Any advice, success/horror stories, or recommendations from my fellow quilters??

LOVE the dresden plate tutorial!!! MSQC had a particular charm pack on deal of the day, and when I called, the lady(can't remember which one) there told me about someone posting the same charm pack done in dresden plate. Well, dresden plate is my all time favorite quilt pattern, so of course, I had to do it too! Been dresdening ever since! I'm totally hooked! Have made 6 plates now out of Nature's Notebook; and appliqued two of them to the background. Also made 2 smaller grandmother's fan blocks for a breast cancer research quilt project. That ruler and the guide made it so easy!!! And the tutorial is just so awesome!! I would've never attempted dresden plate til I saw the video.

                            Re: Dresden plate tutorial

I've been looking at the Dresden plate block for a long time - yearning for it like I do the Grandma's flower garden. When I discovered the tutorial - I had to order the ruler. I also ordered the Deal of the Day - and that day it was the Kansas Troubles Butterfly Garden layer cake. OMG - This is wonderful fabric!! I immediately cut the layer cake in half. One half of the layer cake was then cut up into 2 nickels and the other side became 2 larger Dresden blades. I believe I got 7 1/2 blades out of the 5x10 pieces.
