Any interest in doing a "virtual bee"?

I have seen these on several blogs and wondered if we wanted to do a "mini bee" here? Is this something we are allowed to do here?

I think it would be interesting and fun......anyone else?

Quilting Bees used to be a gathering of women who would all work on a single quilt with the intention of finishing it quickly (usually in a day). A virtual bee would be the same...a group of us all working in the same quilt at the same time...but in our own homes and just sharing online. Each person would mail out the fabric to everyone during their month and everyone will create the blocks for that person then mail the completed blocks back. By the time we have all the months done, everyone should have a pile of blocks that they can complete however they want!!

It really depends on how many want to participate. I think we would need at least 4....then we'd each have to do 6 12.5 x 12.5 blocks...more people participate we'd have less blocks to complete for each month.

I think it sounds like a lot of fun too! We could do it as part of the Quilts for kids program too.

If we get a good count on people and donate 4-6 blocks each depending on size and the amount of people it would be a great opportunity to sew together and participate in a great cause

If we would all rather supply fabric for a whole quilt and make them for ourselves that's cool to... I think I'll start a new forum for quilting bee's and swaps and stuff & we can take a poll.

This is everyone so far participating in the convo and saying they're interested... I think Misty is the only one who's actually said she's in so here goes... I'm in! (for sewing anyway I can't afford the fabric for a whole quilt right now but I'd be happy to help someone sew theirs! I could also supply a few squares for a charity quilt)

Re: Any interest in doing a "virtual bee"?

I think that if we can do (4) 12.5x12.5 blocks PLUS (2) 6.5X6.5 blocks each month we can cover BOTH!! That way we would end up with (20) 12.5x12.5 blocks for our quilts and (10) 6.5X6.5 blocks for the NICU quilts. The person who "hosts" that month can send the same or different fabrics for the NICU quilt, and either they can finish it and send it to the shop completed, or I'm sure if we donate the blocks to MQC, someone there can finish it during their Q4K night each month.

                        How does that sound??

I am interested, but would like more information. I am not sure I really understand. What would be expected of me if I did it? How much would the cost be? Would the blocks be hard? What does hosting mean?

novice quilter, you are a smart woman.

Here I am saying I'm in, but am I really capable? I hope so!!!

Since we have a lot of beginners I'm thinking about doing a quilt along first... what so you guys think?

For those who don't know, a quilt along is where there is a leader who gives instructions and sets dates and then teaches a quilt block on line & we quilt a top on our own at the same time while posting progress pics & such. We would have to pick a start date and block. I've been thinking I'd like to do a fields and furrows log cabin top. It'd be a good beginner block too, but I'll applique over the top of mine at the end to complete a quilt pattern I'm working on. So, I think anyone could enjoy it if they want to participate.

                              Thoughts.
