  • Brother PQ1500SL threading problem

Hi - does anyone else have the Brother PQ1500SL machine and have problems with the needle threader? I use the cotton 50wt thread and the threader breaks the thread almost every single time. It's so frustrating. The design of this needle threader is unlike any other machine I've had. I'm seriously thinking of trying to sell it and buy something else just because threading the needle is such a chore. And to add insult to injury, the eye of the needle is too small to use one of the old fashioned needle threaders. This is obviously a bad design. While I love how the machine itself sews, it's a true workhorse, but changing thread is horrible.

I have the Brother PQ1500 SL and yes the needle threader is a challenge. Long story short I stopped using the needle threader and just thread the eye of the needle manually. 70% of the time I get the thread thru the eye of the needle in the first try. I always get it by the third try. I would never give up my beloved Brother PQ1500 SL just because I have to thread the needle manually.

I have this machine and find that if I release tension completely (I use the knee lift to fully lift the foot) as I go to swoop the threader into the needle I will have less chance of hacking the thread as I pull it through. It doesn't work 100% of the time, but often enough that it's become a habit.

I do as Denise does. I don't use the threader and I have a good rate of first-try success with threading manually. I know that isn't for everyone and I can understand the frustration. I wouldn't give up using my PQ1500 as it such a workhorse compared to every other machine I've used over the years.

What a great idea! I don't have this particular Brother machine but another. I love the needle threader on mine.

On many machines, the needle has to be as high as it will go for the threader to work. This is usually higher than the needle up/down button will lift it.
