  • Longarm encoders

I finally have the tensions right on my long arm. YA!! I am looking at the encoders and wondering how do you clean them? I read somewhere to use an alcohol wipe . Do you think that is safe ? I am wondering what ya'll use to clean the encoders and the rails.

    Thanks,
    Teresa

Glad you got the tension worked out. Sorry I don't know a thing about encoders.

I have a table model LA. I don't even know what an encoder is.

I dampen a scrap piece of fabric ever so slightly with plain 'ol water and gently rub the encoder wheels until clean, then follow up with a dry cloth.

Everything I've read, says to use alcohol on aluminum wheels and rails (to remove oxidation), since nothing I've read mentions rubber or plastic, I won't use alcohol on those materials.

I use an old piece of batting that has been moistened with a diluted alcohol, because most of the alcohol I find these days is very strong. This was recommended by my dealer, and I have used this process now for 5 years.
