    What is taboo

I would like some opinions on wether or not to mix metallics with regular fabric in a quilt. I have some beautiful fall leaves and vines but I need a few more pieces and I found sone very nice metallics. Would this be considered taboo in quilting.?

If you like the fabrics together, they play nicely, use them.

There are no quilt police around here.

I've used both together and really liked it. Just don't use metallics for things that go into the microwave like potato zappers or microwave bowls.

I would say that for balance, you don't want to have 90% non-metallic and then a few fabrics/blocks with a ton of metallic, just because it will look "off". As long as the colors and tone/value works well, having some metallic bits won't hurt at all.

There are no taboos in quilting that i have come across. I feel that it's your quilt, choose the colors YOU like, mix the blocks YOU like go with yout flow. It works for .

Mix away. It is your quilt. There are no rules about mixing fabrics. Do what makes you happy. I personally love me some metallics in Winter and Fall quilts.

I say use whatever you want! My only no-no is it has to be washable.

I agree with the others, as long as you think it looks good, go for it! I have mixed it before

                      Re: What is taboo

Welcome from Ottawa. You can certainly mix cotobns with metallic cottons in a quilt. No rules. If you are talking about the thin shiny metallic polyester used for costumes, I would say no, as these would shrink and burn when pressed. You could use these in a wall quilt as they would get washed.

Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Every day I try to do one thing that challenges my comfort zone.

Metallics are fine to use. I will caution that metallic ink wears off the fabric over time, so if you plan to make something that will be washed often, you may not want to use a lot of metallic fabrics.

Though I'm just a beginner, I don't really believe there are any taboos. Just your taste and preferences.
As Carlie already mentioned that they mustn't go into the microwave, and jjkaiser said about washable ones, I can only add that you should be careful with ironing as well - metallics stay hotter longer while ironing, and it's better to iron them from the backside.
