cute suggestion for a last minute stocking stuffer

A friend made the green one for me and put a chap stick in it, I thought it was a really cute idea. I decided to make some as stocking stuffers for the family. Some have chap stick in them and others have a small tube of travel size Tylenol in them. You never know when you'll be out and get a headache this can be kept in your purse and be ready when you might need it or on your key chain. The white one has the Tylenol in it the coral one chap stick.

These make up in about 5-6 minutes using a 16" piece of a jelly roll strip, sewn right sides together then turned out then the two ends folded in towards the middle and stitched down the sides. Depending what you put in them you can sew the sides with a 1/4" seam or double stitch if the tube is smaller. You want it snug so it doesn't fall out. I bought the key fob hardware at Michaels.

How smart to use a jelly roll. I never thought of that. They are really cute!

I already have the hardware, may need to make a couple of these up for my girls. Great use of jelly roll strips.

Someone made these as favors for one of the forum retreats one year and I love mine. I keep it hanging in my car. Now when it gets so hot that the chapstick melts, it stays in the tube and solidifies like it should instead of lengthwise or all in the cap. It's VERY useful!

                  That's really a cute and thoughtful gift/idea!

Does the key ring hardware just clip on?

The flat piece has two gripper type pieces in them, you put it over the fabric and then you have to use pliers to squeeze it closed so it grips the fabric. My husband has some type of plier with a flat head on it so it doesn't mark the metal. If you use regular pliers I would cover the top of the metal with a small piece of batting so it doesn't get scratched.

I love this idea. You could put a tube for bobbins in it too. Thanks for posting it.
