    Sewing for Puerto Rico?

Hi! I'm old and become new, again. Meaning I joined long ago .... left and came back. I'm in Washington State.

My husband's family are in Puerto Rico. We haven't heard yet from his brother and sister as all the cell towers are down. The island is DESTROYED.
I'd like to help sew pillow case dresses, or whatever, for the poor children. It's hot there so thin child quilts would be good. I'm not an organizer or even a skilled seamstress. But I want to do something!!

I saw on the front page MSQC will send on donations?
Has anyone organized a sewing group? I've looked all over the web, Facebook, googled ...can't find one.

Does anyone here know of an organized group focused on Sewing for Puerto Rico?
    ~Thanks,
    Clementine

M* was rounding up donations for Hurricane Harvey relief. Right after they started Irma hit. I'm not sure if they're sending to FL. You could contact them and see if they have a way to donate to Puerto Rico. Samaritan's Purse might know something as well.

I don't know of any sewing or quilting donations yet. Without communication right now it would be hard to even know where to start. I'm sure that once communications are open it will be easier for us to find out what they need. In the mean time Puerto Rico is in my prayers.

Perhaps try forming a Group for it in our Groups section?

I haven't heard of any initiatives yet either. I think the need is very great throughout the Caribbean because of these horrific hurricanes. I will keep my eyes open too.

In the meantime, those who are able and want to help, why not start stitching pillow cases and dresses? The needs are great and if there is no way to get them to PR, they can surely be used elsewhere.

Are there any dress patterns on line for free that would work? Do you know?

I have a couple of free patterns on my Pinterest board, but they are having a problem with loading right now. I'll try again later.

When we made dresses for Guatamala, we used an A line pattern, and a trick to avoid binding/hemming/trimming the sleeveless armholes. I don't know the pattern for the dresses, but this trick may help. I posted it on my blog recently. https://whatwerks.wordpress.com/2017...less-shortcut/

                          Re: Sewing for Puerto Rico?

Thanks for the responses and links for the pillow case dresses. We heard from our youngest brother, today and another aunt. It's not good. I am using cheater panels to make thin quilt/blankets so the kids will have something .... new! ....and to keep the bugs off. My daughter and son-in-law will go there next month as she is a P.A.c., and bring medical supplies and what I make. It feels so small.
I wish I had more "cheater panels" but I've already broke the bank buying what I can.

                          Thanks everyone,

Currently there is NO electricity. Yes some aid has arrived but getting these items to needed residents is difficult because there is noone to drive supply vehicle (this was on the news today--- the drivers are dealing with their own homes/families)

I'm not sure sending clothing is the best idea. Did you see the Harvey story where there was so much they ended throwing most of it away
