My young son has recently joined a Boy Scout group. He gets to go on a camping trip this summer. The troop is doing a dinner fundraiser for the trip. Beside the dinner they are asking parents to donate items that can be auctioned off. Of course my first thought is a simple lap quilt but I've donated a quilt before that brought in very little money, which is always disappointing. I am so torn. I don't know if I want to put the work in for anything quilted that won't be appreciated or raise money as I think it should. Any ideas for simple quick scrappy quilts (auction is in March) or maybe an idea for something smaller? I don't know what to donate.

Re: Quilts For Auction
My suggestion is to first know your audience. If you don't think it will bring in a lot, can you find a panel that you think is appropriate and do some simple borders around it? Also, can you put a minimum bid on it? I have donated some that I was devastated at how little they received for it (couldn't outbid because it was a friend who had the only bid, and it was all the money she had) and another that went for over a thousand. One was a silent auction and the other was a live auction.Karen

Re: Quilts For Auction
The falling charms pattern always looks wonderful. It is quick and simple. You will raise more money if you pick the charms that match your audience. Either boy scouts or the local football team might be a good choice.Stash Treasure Acquisitions Beyond Life Expectancy. My stash keeps me STABLE, oh yeah.... and dark chocolate.

What about a simple wall hanging with an applique'd camping scene or something else scout related? Search for boy scout emblems on Pinterest??Sometimes, when there's a raging fire,

Re: Quilts For Auction
My husband is an auctioneer. Years ago, we did an auction for our boyscout grandson's troop. We flew to Salt Lake city and the boys all made cakes. Grandparents and parents gathered and the auction began. The cakes brought 30-100 each. The parents all wanted to make their boys look great and they raised a lot of money for the troop.
So, here's my idea...Have the boys make the quilt...they have time at their meetings...They can cut out the pieces, sew them together...or each boy can make the block at home and bring them back to have them put together and you can quilt it and bind it and now each boy has skin in the game and he will want to win it at the auction. If you can find a local auctioneer that will donate his time, the auction will bring more money because he will keep stopping and reminding the folks that its for the troop!success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiam
