    Darning Cotton

Tonight I decided to get out the old sewing box my mother found at an estate sale and used to the last years of her life and see what was in it and decide what I wanted to use it to hold. There was tons of little pieces of elastic and rusted needles. Those got tossed. I kept the buttons and some thread which might or might not be usable. I also found about 8 balls of darning cotton. Now, I am NOT going to be darning any socks. Does anyone have any other uses for darning cotton?

Could it be used for hand quilting or for tying quilts?

Depending on the thickness, you could couch them onto a quilt.

Hang on to it. You never know when you'll have a favorite pair of socks or long johns. I have taken to darning mine because they are so comfortable. And I find them to be getting more and more expensive as time goes by

I have done needlepoint with it, when I had enough colors

Okay, that gives me some ideas. It's pretty fine so I'm not sure how I'll use it. For now I just put the whole basket on the shelf and I'll see what I decide later. Thanks!

And, Grammaterry, I've never liked anything well enough to spend the time darning rather than replacing. I'm still working and my down time is limited. I'm not spending it darning.

You could use it for utility quilting aka big stitch quilting!
