    Lesson Learned

Many quilter purchase fat quarters. Question, do you "check" the cut of the fat quarter?
I purchased 13 FG-- many where precut and folded, others cut for me.
As I was cutting what I needed, a couple of the FQ where cut so badly I could not get the cuts needed. Thankfully, I did "over buy" but, I fel some what cheated (not on purpose, but cheated just the same)
From now on I will have the sales person check the measurement of each FQ.

I don't buy precuts for that reason.

When I buy FQs, I open every single one to examine them to check for skewed edges, flaws, etc. I also hold them up to the light to determine how thick the fabric is. Of course, if you buy them on line, you don't have that option. I like FQs. There is so much you can do with them.

Which ones were off, the precut or the ones she cut in front of you? I think I would take them back.

I had a couple cut for me just the other day. I noticed when I got home one was pretty uneven, fortunately in my favor, but the other half that I'm sure they just put in their fat quarter bin was definitely going to be short.

I don't think some of those cutting notice. I was waiting my turn at a cutting table and watched the lady cut a fabric that had a straight line pattern. (row of Xmas houses) The fabric must have been wonky off the bolt, as the cut piece certainly did not have had the lines straight. Sliced through one line of houses on an angle.

The cut was straight with the selvage.

One time I was making a Christmas project and needed to make my own 2 1/2" strips. This happened at Hancocks (the chain store not the one in Paducah). I bought 1/4 yard cuts which is 9" so I figured I could get three 2 1/2" strips out of each one. Wrong. I only got one out of each one. The elbows were really bad on each one! I was mad. I would rather they tear the fabric than cut it when they don't use a rotary cutter.
