    Re: BGB

WooHoo! I think it looks awesome! It isn't difficult when you take it in small steps and don't overthink it.

Congratulations, I look forward to seeing the next bags.

    [QUOTE=auntiemern;931986].

There is actually a tutorial up in a group on FB called the sewing shed. I am going to start on it today.

    /QUOTE]

One of the ladies in this group put together a label page for all the lettered pieces for the bag including interfacing. I have replicated this form and included the measurements for each piece. I find this easier to use than the list in the pattern. I along with many others deleted all the unnecessary "chat" to condense the pattern.

Also I like to use the purse zippers (because they have 2 zipper pulls) for the exterior zipper.

I have cut out almost all of the pieces for the BGB. There is actually a tutorial up in a group on FB called the sewing shed. I am going to start on it today. No way will I get it done, and now can't get anywhere to get the long zipper (too much ice)

I love my 2 sew together bags. Karen made me one when she made hers, and I won one at a retreat that Jean made.

I don't need a BGB, I just need to prove to myself that I can do it. I put in my very first zipper, EVER, following Jenny's instructions on the zipper bag. Not bad for a first try.
You can do it, like others told me, just take your time and read the directions carefully. Not sure how long it took but I think it took longer to sew the binding (by hand) than it took to do the sewing.

That turned out great! I see you even did the little needle/pin cushion thing. I never did those because I would get stabbed when digging around.

Finally finished my first Sew Together Bag. Learned a couple lessons, the biggest one is to use a lighter weight interfacing.

Also learned a bit about choosing better colors. Definitely going to make some more, I know a few friends who NEED on of these, maybe my DD too.

I love my BGB! I keep it unzipped in a cabinet drawer, then zip it up to take on the road. All my necessaries are in it, pins, bobbins, Wonder Clips, needles, my Purple Thang, a seam ripper, fabric glue, you get the idea!

When I made mine, I only printed out two pages, the supply list and the side pattern piece. If you need the pattern printed, you could delete the photos, delete the dumpling dish pattern, then print. It would be pretty manageable.

Let us know how your Sew Together bag turns out!

Sure, there is no reason you can't do zipper tabs

chitchat". The pattern is absolutely the most ingenious bag pattern I have ever seen and her instructions are detailed enough that anyone with any sewing experience could make one. But I am more of a "just the facts thank you" kind of sewer and all the extra chat just confused and annoyed me as I was working on it.
What I did to make it easier for me to get past the chitchat was to save a copy of the instructions and edit the 35 pages by deleting the photos, the chitchat, and other info I did not need and got it down to 10 pages. I was left with basic cutting and stitching instructions. Then as I worked and needed help or a reminder....I could refer to the photos. The bag is not that difficult to do. Just work step by step and before you know it, you are done.
The bag is amazing and I absolutely love mine and plan to make another this year.
Hope this helps you. Don't pass up making this bag.

I so agree with you - lots of 'tips' that weren't really. After I made the first one, I made a sheet with all the steps listed and a part at the top for my color choices for each piece. I used that and found it so much easier than sifting through the directions.

I love my Sew Together bag. It is almost as roomy as the Bionic Gear Bag and easier to make. I made them for lots of people! I made one Bionic Gear Bag and it got lost in the shuffle at one of the retreats. So, I just use my Sew Together Bags.image.jpg
Here it is in my bedroom sewing area.

You only lose the one pocket with this bag. I've had mine and used it to about 4 years now and love it.
