    BGB

I wanted to try one of these but after reading some of the reviews on Craftsy and hearing the instructions are 80 some pages long and the one tutorial has been taken down I do not think it is for me. Has anyone made a similar type bag that they can recommend?

    Thanks
    Beth

    Re: BGB

I did the Sew Together Bag, also on Craftsy. One less pocket than the BGB. As long as you follow the instructions step by step (I turned the pages as I sewed so I didn't get lost) it was pretty easy.

      Re: BGB

I have had the pattern for a while. They have just launched a new site that the tutorials will be on....still ironing out the rough spots on there though. There is a group here for the BGB so I am sure several members have made one... Almost positive that Carol (snippet) has made them.

        Re: BGB

Don't let the 80 pages scare you. You only need a few of them. Nearly half of the pages are for the dumpling dish, which I didn't make. She has a lot of photos in it, which are helpful but not needed.

If I can do it, so can you. It's not hard, but it is a lot of steps. I think most any bag with pockets and zippers will be this way too.

Just take it one step at a time and enjoy. The first one I made I'm still using and it's holding up very well. Then I made another just to see if I could make it again. Then my cousin wanted one, so I made one for her. They really go together well. And they hold so much in them!

If you need help, let me know and we can chat more about it. There is also a BGB group here - http://forum.missouriquiltco.com/group.php?groupid=220. It's fairly quite in there, but you can always join and ask for help. I'm sure someone will pop in for you.

The BGB is much easier than it sounds.

Bionic Gear Bag I believe. Never made one but heard a lot about them.

                  Re: BGB

I have made the Bionic Gear Bag. The directions to make the BGB is 35 pages long with a LOT of pictures and a lot of what I call "chit chat". The rest of the 80 pages is the dumpling bag instructions, again with what I call
chitchat". The pattern is absolutely the most ingenious bag pattern I have ever seen and her instructions are detailed enough that anyone with any sewing experience could make one. But I am more of a "just the facts thank you" kind of sewer and all the extra chat just confused and annoyed me as I was working on it.
What I did to make it easier for me to get past the chitchat was to save a copy of the instructions and edit the 35 pages by deleting the photos, the chitchat, and other info I did not need and got it down to 10 pages. I was left with basic cutting and stitching instructions. Then as I worked and needed help or a reminder....I could refer to the photos. The bag is not that difficult to do. Just work step by step and before you know it, you are done.
The bag is amazing and I absolutely love mine and plan to make another this year.
Hope this helps you. Don't pass up making this bag.

                    Re: BGB

I'm another fan of this bag. I carry all the stuff I need between locations in this one carry-all. The only difficulty I had was the step when all the bases of the folded segments were sewn into the sides. Be careful here and go slow. Enjoy!

I am totally inexperienced in bag making but I have made both the BGB and Sew Together Bag several times. As long as you follow the steps for the STG bag you will be fine. The BGB is slightly different but similar results. Make a prototype first with a basting stitch so you can rip out the zippers and reuse them once you have it mastered. Give it a try...have fun with it! Good luck.

Thanks for all the encouragement! I think I will order the pattern, have my anal DH read through the instructions (with my limited vision it is so hard to read more than a few lines at a time) and write the directions only for me. I saw a couple of these bags in action at the forum retreat and would like to try a few for Christmas gifts next Dec.

How disappointing, BGB pattern is only available digitally, I NEED a paper copy and not about to start printing 80+ pages to get it. Will have to start looking for a similar bag that I can purchase an actual pattern for. I sometimes sucks to lose most of ones vision.

                          Pardon the poor me attitude.
