Love this one! And I love the fabrics Jenny used.

I'm just not crazy about that one. I think its because the pieces are so big. I wonder if it couldn't be made smaller, but then, you couldn't use the 2 1/2 inch strips I guess.

It would be cool to make it scrappy with string pieced blocks as the starting place. I kept thinking about making the center of the butterfly in black then quilting or appliqueing on some antenna.

I think I might try my own version of this. I love the batiks, but I can see other possibilities. I never sew 2.5" strips the full length. I always cut them in half. Better control, less chance of bowing, just easier all the way around to handle. Since I don't do the JRR, it's not an issue.

I like this one! You could snowball a block other than a rail fence for a different wing pattern. I think it's pretty as it is, but I played around with it in Photoshop to add in some changes others have suggested. I took out the cornerstones, added black sashing for the bodies and some applique antennas.

I cut it twice and it was still too short!

It's ok, I already made two butterfly quilts this year, not
ready for another one just yet.

I like this quilt better without the cornerstones.

That is exactly what was in my mind's eye.

Mine too! I think it's more of a butterfly with the black sash and antenna.

Me too. Also, instead of applique, I would change my thread to black and quilt in those antennas. Or use fabric ink and draw them in. I'm not good at hand embroidery.

I agree -- I'm definitely adding the black sash and antenna when I make mine.
