Thanks for all the great suggestions. In the end I used Jenny's 3 totes from 1 charm pack and Crafty Gemini's tutorial on how to put a recessed zipper in any tote. I thought that the zipper tut was a little cumbersome, but it worked ok. It tote/purse turned out well and she loved it, but alas....I forgot to take a pic before I wrapped it up.

My favorite tote is one I made from watching Tara Rebman's Quilt as you go patchwork bags. It's worth the price of the class just to learn the neat way she installs zippers.

I just made a lot of these for xmas:

You could up size it, and put d-rings on both sides, then swivel clips on a long strap .

I also bought several of her patterns - really well written w/lots of photos

AMG just posted a tutorial from Craftsy that was a little zipper pouch. Her method of inserting the zipper was different from Jenny's but I think the methods are interchangable. Anyway, just a thought.

Yes I love making the zippered pouches.....but I was looking for more of a tote/purse type bag

I'm looking for a quick and easy zippered tote to make for DS's girlfriend. She loves cats and I have some adorable cat fabric and thought I'd like to whip up a quick tote for her. I can't seem to find one with a zipper that I like. Any ideas????
