    Day 1 houston

Oh my gosh!! What a big event. Lots and lots of vendors for quilting, shoes, jewelry and shawls. Lots of people but nothing that was overwhelming. I can see what someone said about back packs--very awkward to navigate around. Picked up 2 large bags so tomorrow I am only taking one bag and my billfold. No purse--even as a cross body bag my shoulders got sore. I may also take my lunch. Way to crowded in the food court.
Whatever you want is here plus a lot more. I stocked up a little on extra thread. Purchased some zipper pulls- a couple of kids and a pattern and that was about it. Trust me when I say I could have purchased a lot more. I did take some advise and only picked up cards at a few places so I can ponder on it tonight, go back tomorrow or order on line. A couple of places said they have no online sites as they only do shows.
Oh-- Ginny was there- -about 10 ft away from me while I was resting. I could have gotten a picture with her but did not do it. I was very surprised to see how tall she is-actually shocked. Standing behind her table certainly makes a difference. She was very accommodation to those that wanted a picture,
So off tomorrow to view the quilts.

Have fun. After working in a booth both last year and this year, so far it has not been as crowded this year. Sales a bit down this year, but still good. I look forward to seeing a few quilts tomorrow.

Glad you had a good time Claudia on your first day. My plans changed at the last minute but I'm still hoping to go Sat or Sun. I'm just itching to see all those award winning quilts.

I know you meant kits, but I couldn't resist.

We went Thursday and Friday and came home yesterday. Letting the joints and muscles recover today from all the walking. We had a great time. I was good - bought a few things, but mostly spent money on food. We went to a New York deli one evening for dinner and I had a $14 omelet! My friend won the prize - she bought the large Pfaff embroidery/sewing machine. I'm waiting to hear what her husband has to say about that. And, of course, the quilts were gorgeous. I got choked up at the 9/11 display. And the leather quilts were amazing.

I don't think I've ever seen a leather quilt. Do you have any pictures? I'll bet that's really interesting! I've never been to a quilt show.

Leather quilts are tooled, dyed, stitched on a large piece of leather. Here's one:

This is a bird's eye view of part of the vendors. It is less than half of the vendor area. The quilts are in the area tot he right - another two halls.

Sunday was not very busy. I think it was due to the time change and the bad weather approaching.

Sundays have always been slow days at Quilt Fest since I've been going. They're my favorite time to shop and look at quilts. Its so nice not to have to deal with so many people. Its also nice to be able to chat with the vendors without feeling like you're holding up the line.
