How to get a travel partner to MSQC that's not a quilter

I read daily how some of you would love to come to MSQC but have no one to travel with you. I understand that. But think outside the box. What if you got a travel partner that once you got to MSQC went and did their own thing? Well what would they be interested in doing? Remember Hamilton is only about 65 miles north of Kansas City Missouri.
History buff: St. Joseph MO .. lots of Jesse James history and the start of the Pony Express plus museums, Kearney MO again Jesse James home and history; Weston MO .. home of Watkins Mills; Independence MO ... where the California, Santa Fe and Oregon trails originated and lots of historical sites to see here including the Presidential Library and home of Harry S. Truman.
Sports buff: Kansas City is home to the KC Royals baseball, KC Chiefs football , Missouri Mavericks hockey, KC Sporting outdoor soccer league and three easily within 2 hours drive college teams Missouri Tigers basketball and football or KU in Lawrence KS basketball and football and K State in Manhattan KS again basketball/football. In KC downtown we have UMKC (University of Missouri at Kansas City) has a good basketball team as well.
Outdoor/fishing/hunting: Missouri has one of the highest ranking Conservation Departments in the US. Want to fish or hunt or take pictures of beautiful places ... to take pics of wild birds go to Squaw Creek .. a conservation in upper Missouri ... or for native flowers Powell Gardens. Tons of lakes to fish on... Weston has a nice small lake and in Smithville there is a bigger lake ... want to send them away for 4 or 5 days.. we've got many lakes just 2 to 4 hours south of Hamilton.
High end shopper/party person... there's the famous Country Club Plaza...Beautiful at Christmas with tons of lights, the new Power and Light District downtown KC..tons of bars, etc.
SO we really aren't a fly over state ... the things I've mentioned are a touch of what all we have to offer. Come see us in Missouri We would love to have you!
    Sherrie
PS: We are in Missouri...ignore the national news last fall when we won the World Series... they kept saying Kansas ... we love our Kansas neighbors despite our huge north/south road named "State Line Road" .. really those Kansas people are nice

    Thanks Sherrie,

I am really dreaming of a visit at MSQC, but I think I will have to wait until my retirement. My DH and I are thinking about doing a tour through USA and I told him, he will have to spend one day at Hamilton. He could go golfing during my Shopping time or just sit in the "man`s cave" and talk to the other "parked" husbands :-)

You are right. I was born in Independence and remember all the wonderful sites. A great place to be.

We Kansans will let you claim a bit of the Royals Don't forget the great BBQ places, breweries, Lewis and Clark history is everywhere and the Walter Cronkite library in St. Joe and the WW1 museum in KC. Also down by the Grand Central Station in KC, which is a great place to go, is the Titanic exhibit.

Correction, if I may, Weston is NOT the home of Watkin's Mills - however it is the home of Holladay Distillery - McCormicks Distillery and several wineries. It was was written up in the journals of Lewis and Clark . . .

I can vouch for the Holladay distillery . I've heard it does a great tour.

Maybe you and I need to meet up and scout out some other places to add to the list? Isn't this a wonderful gem in the middle of the US - so many activities and interesting sites to choose from. Watkins Glen, dear peeps, is a wonderful fun place to visit though.

Have any of you ever considered going with a good quilting buddy instead of DH? While I dearly love my husband there are just places I'd rather go without him and a quilting adventure is one of them. It's like I told him "you wouldn't want to take me on a hunting trip would you?". I have a couple of friends and we meet up for a fun quilt week. We share expenses so it works out well.
