    Suggestions requested quilt pattern

A very close friend learned yesterday that she has a recurrence of breast cancer. Not many details yet, but she will need to start chemo again and have mastectomy this time. I want to make her a quilt that goes quickly. Any ideas? Torn between her favorite colors (need to ask son) or finding pink precuts

Jelly roll race surely goes fast. You do not even have to think of matching anything. Hope your friend does well. So good she has such a caring friend.

The JRR would be super easy and also the framed square would be nice. Begin with a 5" square and sew 2 1/2" strips around the four sides. Sew blocks into rows and add a border. This is my favorite block to fall back on. You can chair piece everything.

Pink is generally used for breast cancer patients.
I'd purchase several 6-8 pieces of yardage.
1/2 -1 yard pieces, cut strips WOF and just start sewing the
different strips together. There's so many wonderful
pink fabrics available, include prints, dots, etc.
You will have more choices buying yardage than pre cuts
        making your quilt more personal.
Good luck to your friend .
        Don't forget your backing label.

The alter ego goes together soooo quick and easy and it isn't difficult to get those corners to match up. Also, for something that looks a little more complex, the cutting corners is fast...just sew those strips together then make them into 10 inch blocks and then hst. You can put one of those together in a day.

Prayers for your friend. The triangle quilt shown recently by Jennie is a quick quilt. If you are using fabric cut into 10 inch squares and go from there. God Bless all.

I cut it twice and it was still too short!

How nice of you, and I'm so sorry for your friend. If it were me dealing with cancer, or if I were making a quilt for a friend, I would either go with favorite colors, or something bright and cheery. I would want to look at something cheerful - not predominantly pink that makes me think of breast cancer.

Both of the Jelly Roll Jam quilts on the Fat Quarter Shop site are super fast and cute, as is the Giant Vintage Star quilt on the In Color Order blog. http://www.incolororder.com/2011/08/...-tutorial.html

A friend of mine had breast cancer and a group of her friends who were quilters made her a beautiful pink quilt. She appreciated the beautiful quilt and their kindness. She is a quilter too. She told me that given her druthers she would have rather had the quilt in a different color(s), not pink. The pink was too much of a reminder for her. But she loved her friends and the quilt they made for her.

I forgot to answer your question about a quilt that goes quickly. I always suggest simple squares because they are always my personal favorite, where the beauty of the fabric shows off. If you would rather make a quilt with more detail how about double slice layer cake? It's a fast quilt to make and very pretty.
