    Random UFO Thoughts......

Okay, most of us have quilting UFO's.....some of us......more than others. Thankfully, I only have six of them. I joined a UFO group in our guild recently and had to come up with a sixth UFO just so I would have enough for the challenge.

The random question today is: Out of all of your UFO's, which one would you like to finish the most and why?

Wow, this is a loaded question, I have to actually admit to having UFO's!

I do have one that I am dying to finish, a kaleidoscope quilt, started it, completed 2 practice blocks, really like the 2nd one, got all the coordinating fabrics and now it sits there until I can get my DH to help with the cutting. My vision is just not good enough to get it perfect and I do not want to make a ho-hum quilt. Every time we can get together and work on this it seems I have another project going.

I have a finished top that I want to fmq and finish. I am waiting for means to buy backing and batting.

I want to finishes it because I think it might be the best quilt I made so far. If I may say so my self.

I have two that need to be done...one is ready for quilting (The Witch) but is a king so I'm procrastinating. The other is Night Sky, which I first have to frog as I sewed it together wrong. These are still packed in the moving boxes.

I guess I am weird in that I don't really get pleasure from creating things unless I am making it for someone else. I need to pick someone to give the quilts to and then I will be motivated to finish them!

Cash flow!! that seems to be the real UFO. We can piece from just about any scrap of fabric, so we piece and we piece and we create and then....whoa....another $100 to finish the beautiful quilt. I can't tell you how many I have finished with a goodwill blanket or mattress pad as the batting and a goodwill flat sheet for the backing. That can be done for about $6.
So, as you know from previous posts...UFO's are difficult for me to have. They stress me out seeing something that really needs to get done and then I obsess. Same with too much stash...I feel I have to get it worked up into a pattern of sorts. So, as of today, One quilt top lies sandwiched and pinned and ready to quilt and I can't start it because, I need to make some more Shriner quilts this week. Only 10 more days and the big event occurs and I really NEED to make at least one or two more. My goal is getting closer and I am hoping hoping hoping that it all goes well.
Did I tell you a man came in and gave me $200 for 4 baby quilts to be donated directly to the children. So last weekend...my days off, that's what I did...4 baby quilts. $200 sounded like a fair proposition for him not getting anythingin return.

I have several that I need to get done. I just get board with them or something else comes along so I put that one up and do something else. Mine is just space and time. I am working on both of those now. My son moved out again and he was in my garage/sewing room. So now I am moving everything out of my living room into my garage so I can sew. My family will see me for supper at night but will be about it. I have a circular bargello that I want to finish. I cut a couple of wedges wrong so I have to re do those. It has been about 4 maybe 5 years since I started it. I have already marked where I need to start, so hopefully I can remember how to do it. I may have to scrap this one and start over. Not sure yet.

Every one have a great day.

Mine is the Social Butterfly as seen in this link

I have all the backing & binding fabric as well as the batting, and could send it off to a long arm quilter, but I am so in love with this quilt top and pleased with how well it turned out, that it is one I want to quilt myself. However my skills on the longarm (which I would have to rent from my LQS, and my FMQ skills are still in the very early stages of developement, and I don't want to ruin this beautiful quilt top with cra**y quilting.

Working on getting better, and when I'm comfortable with my skills, then I'll finish this one. IMO better to wait, than to be impatient and ruin it.

A memory quilt. I can't get my sister to come by and make decisions on backing fabric and the pay for the fabric.

                      Re: Random UFO Thoughts......

I'm working on two UFOs now They both need fmq. I still need to get batting for one of them. I have four more tops to finish up, but in need of cash flow for backings and battings and I have one to send to MSQ for completion. I wish I could send all of them but then, I wouldn't get the practice I need.

I lost some motivation this summer with the wicked heat and humidity so that slowed my quilting down. I also did a total sort of my fabrics and I must admit that it's shameful. I need to get a plan............and soon!

                        Re: Random UFO Thoughts......

I'll admit to having a few UFOs in different stages of completion, mostly from block exchanges. I have 12 basket blocks, 14 different shoe blocks and a bunch of leaf blocks. I did turn some other swap blocks into cute dolly quilts but these blocks need to be made into lap quilts or larger. One of the shoe blocks has a ballet slipper, this I plan to turn into a wall hanging for DGD Elizabeth as she still continues taking ballet lessons.

I put kits together when I broke my wrist, but haven't touched any of them. Is that a ufo if I didn't cut anything? lol

For me, it's the one for DD#10 that I started her freshman year of college two years ago! Got 18 of 20 squares done, and then "Oh, look! I can do [fill in the blank with whatever small project/Christmas gift/new baby quilt] really fast, and THEN I'll get back to Abi's quilt."

Do I have to admit how many "Not Even Begun but Have the Fabric" projects? Because that would take a LOONNNG time to list.

                              Re: Random UFO Thoughts......

I don't have a preference for which UFO gets done first. I'm not sure how many finished tops I have hanging on hangers waiting to be quilted. I'm guessing at least 12. I have some other projects not yet ready for quilting: blocks that are finished but need to be sewn together, or only some of the blocks made, but not enough yet for the quilt top. For me, it's a matter of having enough time, since I'm caregiver for my DH. I've been wanting to quilt my sampler quilt that I made 6 yrs. ago, but baby quilts for showers, etc. took precedence. I have a queen size Herringbone ready, with the backing, for the LAer. She said she'd have time the last wk. of Sept. That's a gift for my gr. son who got married on Sept. 3. So I plod along & piece & quilt as I have time. As Fall comes, & there's less outside work, I should have more time. I still need to do some weeding in the flower beds.
