not upset. not annoyed but shaking my head

I'm probably one of the few that doesn't get upset waiting in line, esp at Joanns. I usually strike up a conversation with the other shoppers. That's what happened Saturday, had a nice chat and as the line moved forward i got out my phone to make sure my coupons were ready to go. The woman behind me instantly went into a tirade about smart phones and how she was glad she didn't have one. "you can't even wait in line without checking it" "I don't want to be tethered to one"etc., etc.
OK, not sure she was directing it at me, however it felt that way. The others in line just looked at her. I checked out-using the 50 and 60% coupons on my phone and walked away shaking my head.

I don't have a phone either, but I don't pay much attention to them because I don't live in a city. I would scold my daughters if they were on them on a dinner night out though.

I was on the opposite end the other day. I went to our little store around the corner and someone left a diesel engine motor running
I complained to the cashier how rude it was that we have to breathe that in and someone did it at my garage sale. It ended up the person I was complaining about was the person behind me. Opps!

Something similar happened at my church a while back. A lady in the pew behind me muttered about a young man "playing on his phone during the sermon" I turned around and told her he was reading the verses from the sermon on his online Bible. Then I picked up my phone and showed her my online Bible too.

Some people speak before they understand.

So glad you used your coupon, you savvy person you!

I went to Joanns early Friday when they had 60% off and other discounts. I had received a handout the week before on the upcoming discounts. I also received a notice of the 60% off on my phone - not the other discounts, just that one, but I thought I could only use the discount once. When I went to check out, the clerk gave me all the discounts on the handout, but then asked "didn't you get one on your phone too?" Why yes, yes I did. So I received 60% off a second item. Works for me! I have seen it mentioned here (I think) that you can use the paper discounts and also the text discounts. It may depend on the store.

Not sure why someone feels the need to be negative about us being online while waiting in a line. Its called multitasking. And for me, that is why I dont mind waiting in lines either. Keeps me busy.

The only time I mind is when there are loud conversations, and blocking aisle traffic, or texting while supposedly holding a conversation with me. Do NOT go out with me to eat and drag your phone out!

It irritates me to no end when someone is in the checkout line, at the cashier, talking on their phone. It is rude. I do not do that, and if someone calls me while I'm being waited on, I don't answer it.

When we have everyone over for dinner, phones must be left on the mantle in the TV room during dinner.

Many years ago, before I was a dispatcher, and was a communications operator (the ones who answer 911 calls), I had to call and ask the sergeant a question. He was a real a**. About 30 minutes later, I had to call again, hoping I'd get a different sergeant. This one did not tell me his name when he answered and he was sweet as could be!! I told him about the other sergeant I had talked to earlier.....yep, it was him. I hung up before he could ask me my name!!

I totally agree those of us using the smart phones need to be respectful of those around us. I expect of my girls as well. If we are interacting with someone standing in front of us, the phone needs to be away

The cell phone story made me think of this.

True story-- DH was at the VA couple weeks ago and he over heard this: A man has a package of foil and he opens it up and starts eating cold greasy bacon. The man at the desk said, "You know that is going to kill you." The man with the bacon said," My grandfather lived to be 103". The man at the desk said, "He ate bacon like that?" The guy with the bacon said no, but he minded his own xxxx business.

As a cashier this is one of the most annoying things ever. I have to say hello and ask how you are and if you found everything you needed. Thats my job. I have to do it even if you are rude and running your mouth on your phone and not paying attention. I have to tell you how much your order comes to and ask if your an awards member. Even when you look at me rudely and shake your head. I have to say goodbye and have a nice day, even though your still yakking on your phone and ignoring me. So frustrating. I talk louder and have more conversation with these rude people, its my only way to get back at them. I love the people who say I am at the cashier have to hang up now!

Well, as a teen I was a cashier at the biggest craft company in California...Moskatels. It was before cell phones and digital registers. I had to hold the button down 100 times for silk wedding flowers. People waited because that was normal. It's not normal anymore because all this digital crap grew faster than our brains could keep up with. I'm happy to not own a phone. It was nice to come home to see a message on the machine.

Yes, it's rude to be gabbing on your phone in the checkout, but that is not the issue here. Our phones are much more than phones now (it's a love/hate thing... but that is what it is). Grabbing a coupon from your phone is like getting it out of your wallet, basically.
