    MSQC Mobile Apps Survey

    Hey everyone,

I am David. I work to build MSQC's mobile apps for your phones and tablets. We have some great stuff in the works and are planning what we would like to do next. So, I have a few questions for you about how we can keep building apps that you love.

What quilting apps are you are already using frequently? Specifically, apps from outside of MSQC.

Share your ideas for future apps! What apps could we make that would make quilting even better and easier for you? Who knows, we might build your idea!

I am really looking forward to hearing your responses, and can't wait to keep making great quilting apps for you all! Comment in the forum below or email me at [email protected]

    Thanks!

Hi David! The only other quilting app I have, other than M*, is the Robert Kaufman QuiltingCalc app.

I do have a question for you though. I have an Android based phone and tablet. When is M* going to make the app available for Android that allows BLOCK subscribers to download the electronic versions for free like the Apple users have had for over a year?

What I would love in a quilting app, would be an app that would allow me to associate the following items together:
      1. A pattern (either photo or the actual pattern file)
      2. Photos of fabric
      3. List of supplies (and whether I have them or need them)
      4. User notes

I'd like to be able to complete partial entries, so that I could see what fabric I need to find a pattern for and what patterns I need to find fabric for. If I can select a type of precut fabric I need (e.g. 10" squares), the app could link me to the 10" squares page on MSQC. Colormatching solids to prints would be a bonus.

Oh yes, and I'd like the app to be on Android.

I don't do ANYthing mobile, apps or otherwise, since there is no such thing as a wireless signal anywhere near me.

The only other app I use is the Robert Kaufman Calc app. But I too have Android phone and tablet and would like to down the Block magazine. I am a subscriber.

I use the Robert Kaufman app along with the Block app.
However the Block app won't allow me to download the latest issues even though I am a subscriber and am signed in.
Not sure how to fix this.

It may be none of my business, but why don't you just buy the electronic version of BLOCK and forego the paper version? That is what I do and it's a buck cheaper! The first issue I got both to compare them, and I saw no difference in the quality.

I also use the Robert Kaufman app. Very helpful.

I use the Robert Kaufman QuiltingCalc very frequently. I also use the Quilt Shops app. It will show me all the quilt shops in the area. In all honesty, I deleted the Missouri* app, not because I didn't like it but because I didn't use it.

Msec app is the only one I use! Love it!

I have a Kindle. I would love an app that would let you load thbnails of precuts next to each other on a white design board background so you can see what different fabric lines look like next to each other. Sometimes it's hard to tell if Fabric A looks better with Fabric B or Fabric C, but you can't afford to buy them all. Thanks for asking for OUR opinions on this!!

I like the Block... I like having the pattern out and open when I want. I like that someone can pick it up from the coffee table and flip through it. You can't do that with an app. I use Robert K. Fabric calc. Alot.

                          Re: MSQC Mobile Apps Survey

I use the Robert Kaufman app a LOT. I also created a map of quilt shops along highways when I travel. An app for that would be nice. I think there is one, but it is a yearly expense and I don't see the need for that.

Something I would like is a HST and QST calculator. I have a bunch of spreadsheets that I refer to for each. Depending on the fabric I have on hand will often determine how I make my HSTs - 2 at a time, 4 at a time, 8 at a time or strip tube. I would LOVE a calculator that will tell me the dimensions of squares needed for say a 4.5" unfinished HST in each of the methods mentioned.

In fact I've been toying with the idea of making such an app myself.

I also use the Kaufman calculator app. I'd love to have Quilt Snips added to the Tutorials app or a separate app for them. I always have a hard time finding where to see them all or more easily select the one I'm after. Similar to what someone else suggested I'd like an app where you can record your quilt projects and future projects - one that allows editing, notes, fabric photos, fabrics you've purchased for a particular project, what still needs to be purchased, etc.

Hi everyone, thank you for the suggestions and the positive feedback on MSQC's current apps. Since you were all so nice to take the time to share your thoughts, I will let you in on a secret, BLOCK Android is almost ready. Shhhh. Expect more news soon.

I am really glad to hear that you are using your mobile devices, including our apps, while quilting.

It sounds like a lot of your are using the Kaufman QuiltingCalc app. Do you find that it meets all of your needs? What other calculations would you benefit from? How could it be improved?

I have also heard your feedback about a quilter's planning tool. Good idea. I would love to hear any further thoughts here.
