Re: Having trouble with order at MSQC

I was in Hamilton for the Birthday Bash ... and stayed for the Forum Retreat (Sept 25-28.) I was surprised to see lights on in the stores late at night after they had closed at 5pm. I was told that the lit stores had the night crews cutting the on-line fabric yardage orders. They are continuously hiring people and, I believe, employ about 350 now.

Sorry to hear about delayed orders ... I also had one - out of all my orders during the past 3+ years. Tracking yardage inventory with orders coming from both the internet and people walking into the shop can be challenging.

I am waiting on fabric too, but I am not worried in the least. Cutting yardage just takes longer. Since I have been ordering from M* I have only had to wait longer than a week, two times. This is the second, out of, don't make me guess how many since it's been about 2 orders a week, for most of a year.

Last week was their birthday bash? Or was that 2 weeks ago? They had one heck of a sale. Layer cakes for $20. I an only imagine thousands of quilters rallied to support their growing stashes. The last two orders I have placed took about 2 weeks. No more than I am paying for fabric, I will be ever so patient.

Maybe it has to do with where we live? I'm on the west coast, near San Francisco.
I'm in the same area. I've wondered if these Surepost complaints are regional. There is such a high volume of delivery trucks in our area, plus we are near all the main hubs, generally things only get waylaid by my local PO (which has been much more efficient since all the closures meant they could possibly lose their jobs—before that I'm pretty sure they took a lot of breaks and searched for interesting packages to open :s )

Even in a LQS buying fabric is a slow process. Yeah okay, it's same day, but it's not efficient like popping into the mini mart to pick up a quart of milk. My last trip involved a lovely chat, waiting for her to come out of the store room once I'd decided on fabrics to be cut, then scratching my head trying to remember what I'd really come in for and then waiting for her to order it and doublecheck my info. It's just not a speedy business, online or in line.

When I order online, even if it's from Amazon, I picture how far someone has to reach to pick all the items and package them. Order things from different spots and it's going to take extra time to get it together. Notice how Amazon allows you to pay extra to have items shipped separately so they may arrive faster? Locating bolts of fabric, cutting, folding, labeling, delivering it to the shipping department at nice they've cut a certain number of orders, yeah that takes more time than reaching up and plucking a box of pins off the shelf in the warehouse. And it's pretty amazing M* can make this business as personal as they do, my LQS have generally struggled with that and they serve a few neighborhoods and not an entire planet.

I too ordered during their stars promotion and thought that was the reason it took three weeks to receive my order. Ordered on August 23 and didn't receive until September 11th. Unfortunately they sent me the wrong fabric. I contacted them and they told me to keep the fabric and reordered the correct fabric. They also gave me quilters points which I thought was nice. Keep in mind this was on September 11th. I just received my order yesterday, October 5th. They didn't ship it out until October 3rd. During this time I was in contact with customer service almost daily and kept getting lip service about how their shipping department was sooo busy and that she would pray it got out. I wasn't nasty in my emails but was showing my frustration with their company. I'm a religious person but God helps those who help themselves! What happened to them. I've been ordering for years and been very happy with their turn around time. Obviously there is a problem. A big one that they need to correct soon. I've loved their daily deals and their fabrics but sadly, after the hell I went through with their customer service, I will no longer be ordering from them again. Hope they figure out their problems soon and go back to the way they used to be.

USPS look as though they have been updating or doing something very technical with their website since about Thursday. I'm waiting on a Waldorf doll for my grandson and it looks as though it's stuck in Dubai. I suspect it'll turn up on my verandah before they update it.

My precut order from 8/30 sat in St Louis for three days (9-3 to 9/6) at the UPS hub before it moved. Remember UPS is a Mon-Fri operation and not only does not deliver on Sat or holidays, they don't even move a piece of mail from one end of the building to the other. They are closed. It has now made three stops between STL an JAX and will get here sometime. I love M* and am not bashing them, but will no longer order anything I need in a reasonable amount of time. Other retailers get my fabric to me in 2 days by the post office. I sincerely hope they go back to USPS or at least give us a reasonable shipping option.

I've had to wait a long time for yardage, but a few days ago I bought the DD + a precut and they had it shipped out the same day.

As to why they charge when you make the order, I suspect it's to ensure that the funds are there when they cut the fabric. It would be a mess if they cut fabric and then found out the person's payment didn't work. (My sister has an internet bead business and you wouldn't believe how much of a pain it is for her to prep orders for shipping only to have the payment fail to go through.)

I'm with you Carlie Wolf .. I'd much rather be charged right away ... I shop MSQC more frequently than I'd care to admit even under oath I love their service, their family and just all of it

I'm probably the odd man out. I prefer that my card is charged right away. Otherwise I forget I made the purchase and purchase more things only to find I've outspent my account!!! Yes I did that three times and that was pricey when the bank charged me the $35 over draft.

I've been shopping M*for years. Usually the order is quick. The golden ticket promotion was extremely popular.
Jenny sent a lovely email to apologize. I don't remember apologies from any other company I have dealt with. So I didn't mind waiting. It was fun getting the scratch off. Whoo hoo I was a winner of a 10 pack.
Also I ordered on the free shipping day....if it's free shipping I'm okay with waiting.

I hope they have the golden ticket again!!!

Re: Having trouble with order at MSQC

Thanks to everyone on this thread. I was unaware that they were some promotion of some kind that is backing things up. However, I dislike the policy on MSQC that we are charged the minute the order is placed, RATHER then when it ships (everything else paypal gets charged when it SHIPS not when it orders). I will never order again from MSQC, I did so in this instance because they had the lowest price. I will let the item ride for a bit, but if I still do not hear by next week, I will complain to paypal and get it elsewhere. I hate aggravation more than anything, and internet shopping is SUPPOSED to be breezy, if I wanted aggravation, I would go to a real store.

I made no referral to Surepost, since its been a year since I had to deal with them. I'm talking strictly the USPS. Two book orders from my fave thrift books, one pair of pillow forms from Joanns, this order from *M (no surepost involved) and the socks I ordered, all in the past several months, and not one time did USPS stay reasonably current on tracking. The one with the socks shipped Tues, and there is STILL no tracking info posted.

Regular UPS maybe, but UPS Surepost - no way!

    I second what Karen said!
