    Help Keeping Quilting going

Every year at the Vermont Quilt Festival they have a children entry section and it is amazing what these kids can do. One of the areas quilt shop owners and show sponsor gives each child who enters a brand new sewing machine. Here is a write up on this generous man.

Very nice to see support. It is an uphill battle to get youth interested in sewing. With home ec. etc. out of the schools we have lost a lot. So many of the kids don't have a parent that sews, either. That said, I have seen some kids out there that are amazing when it comes to sewing or quilting

That is just soooo cool. What a wonderful and generous individual. In our area we have a "quilt queen" that judges 4-H sewing and quilting so harshly it puts more kids (and adults) off from sewing than it ever benefits. Its a sad state of affairs that home ec is gone from our schools. I'm so thrilled my granddaughter at least so far has interest in sewing and cooking. I've made it my mission to cultivate that interest. Anything any of us can do should be commended or it will soon be a lost art.
