    Re: Need help

I would definitely add a thin framing border before the piano key border.

If the quilt was for a man I would leave the design as is. Since it is for your sister maybe add one simple applique that would have a special meaning for your sister. I would put the applique in just one corner.

Yes, it does seem that there is more dark in the upper part of the quilt. If you have enough blocks, I would try to put the darks in the longest diagonal line, then work out in decreasing color from there. But there are certainly other combinations as well. Take pictures as you move the blocks around.

I also agree with you that a solid border between the main part of the quilt and the outer border is a good thing. I think I would prefer a darker inner border, but, again, you can audition fabrics and see what appeals to you.

    It is a lovely quilt!

What stands out to me are all of the lights gathered in the lower left section of the quilt and darks in the upper right part. If you meant it to be that way you reached your goal. If not, you might want to spread them out so you don't have so many lights in one area and darks in the other. I agree with the others that you need a narrow framing border between the blocks and the scrappy border squares on the edge.

The layout looks good to me! Definitely use a solid border between the main blocks and the pieced border, maybe that cranberry red color.

Love it! I agree that a very thin inner border would work..... You have options.... A nice medium brown, black, or dark brown, or you could match your binding.... Audition some choices, then go with your gut....

    Yes, a small border!

Quilt looks great as is. If you are wanting to balance the dark blocks ... the diagonal row with the 1st upper left block in it seems to be holding most of the dark blocks. If you want them more balance, you may want to take some out of this row and alternate with others.

Or, take the upper right dark block and the lower left dark block and move it to the diagonal row of 2 blocks in the bottom left and put a lighter block at the corner bottom left. This will give the eye 2 dark diagonal lines to look at and make the larger dark diagonal line coming off the upper left corner more deliberate.

    LOOKS FABULOUS ... AS ALWAYS!

I'll agree it needs a smaller border between the top and outer border. What do they say, a rest for your eyes.

Your quilt looks great! If it was mine, I would put a light solid border before the pieced border. I think it looks a little "confused" with the pieced border directly against the center. Just my opinion. I love the colors you used!!

    Need help

    Hi

I am making a quilt for my sister.

I am staring at my blocks over and over again. I think something is lacking.

Am I right or am I just blind for staring at it for too long ?

I am thinking on adding a thin dark framing border before the border with the squares.

Is the colors fairly distributed on the quilt ?

It needs one more row of blocks at the bottom to be long enough.

    Here is a picture.

I will bind it in a dark almost black brown fabric. and the backside is a chocolate brown color white swirly lighter brown pattern.

    Grateful for any input

    Annika
