    cleaned my cutting mat

Today I was cutting some fleece on my cutting mat (olfa) and boy, did it ever have fuzz in the grooves of the mat from cutting. The mat is old and I knew there would be some but this was awful. I got out a rag and damp cleaned it . It was still terrible. So I figure I didn't have much to lose, so I started rolling it at the cut places and rubbing the damp cloth on the gouges. My old mat that hadn't been self healing for some time now, is smooth as can be. Be careful rolling that you don't fold and roll from both directions a little at a time.
I guess, roll isn't exactly the right term....I arched it so the cuts were at the top of the arc. Anyway, that opens up the grooves so you can get the fuzz out. There was fabric lint all over not just the fleece I cut today and now the mat looks great. I almost feel like I splurged when I bought the new mat thinking I would just use the old one on things that were not going to be terribly important.

No. I used a dish rag and cool water and I rubbed pretty hard. As I rubbed away from the cut, I could see the stuff coming out of the groove. Some of it must have been in there a long time. I'd say it took no more than 20 MIN.
