Calling Toronto!

So DH is going to Toronto in mid July to attend a Microsoft partner conference. Usually he goes to the U.S. and the last couple of years I've ordered fabrics to his hotel and have him bring it home to me (only fair since this the conference is during our summer vacation time, am I right?!?). Is it worth doing so to Canada as well? The shipping to Europe is horrible, surely it's better to Canada...?

He'll be staying at a motel this time and I'm not even sure the accept fabric packages, but I thought I would check if it's worth it.

The exchange rate between the states and Canada right now is almost 30% (they spend $1.30 for $1 worth of US merchandise, we spend 70c for $1 worth of merchandise when bought from a Canadian site). From what I understand, they also pay a lot in shipping. The only Canadian company I order from is Emmaline (purse stuff), but what I save in the exchange rate makes up for what shipping is, which I don't find to be that bad. It takes a bit longer to get here, but that's okay with me.

I tend to order all my fabric from the States and have it shipped up, unless I am visiting the US.

I'm not sure how the customs thing will work because your order would be shipped to a hotel, but M* does ship to Canada for $10. It takes a couple weeks for shipping time, so you will need to plan your purchases in terms of arriving at the hotel. Prices are in US $

I have also found this site has a lot of different fabrics with some being pretty good prices (prices are in Canadian $) http://chez-helene.com/index.html The site is all in French, but you can use google translate. The husband knows English and will answer any questions that may come up. Shipping for me was around $12, but I'm not sure what it would be to Toronto. The advantages are no border/customs and the prices are Canadian.

M* has a flat rate shipping to Canada of $10 US, but there will still be Canada duty and taxes to pay when it's delivered, and the order might get held up at Customs.

Just updating RiverMomm's comment about Connecting Threads, they have free shipping on orders over $75 US, but they actually truck Canadian orders to the border and use Canada Post, so there is never any customs duty to pay.

Here is a link to fabric stores that sell online in Canada, I have only bought from Sew Sisters and Canadian National Fabric and have been pleased with the service I got from both, free shipping after you spend a certain amount. I am sure others will be able to give you reviews of some of the other stores listed if you are interested.

Why don't you order fabric in Canada, they have lots of fabric too of course. Hotels will take deliveries, don't worry about that. I do it all the time.

Worth looking into, thanks! We have good stores over here too but they are WAY more expensive than the U.S. ones a´nd probably the Canadian ones are slightly better prices as well.
