    I am sooooo not happy!

I thought I had posted this rant yesterday, but I must have hit the W ring button.

my Brother Simplucity Profesdional has a feature that absolutely drives me nuts.... When you turn the machine on, you must ALWAYS push a button that will move the needle from the left, to center.... If you fail to fo this, and you are using the wrong pressed foot,my out risk breaking a needle...or worse, having a needle tip hit your eye... It's an easy thing to forget to do.... Esoevialky Shen none if your other mavhines require this strong before sewing...

Well... Yesterday I was happily quilting the first of two baby quilts made for my nephew's.. I was very pleased that my edging out was keeping my stitches right there in the ditch.... I needed to turn the machine off for a minute....when I turned it back on, I resumed stitching.....but forgot to hit that pesky little button.... when I repositioned the quilt, I noticed that some of the stitching was off.... I assumed it was me, so I went in, trying to do a better job... When thst didn't work I realized that I had neglected to hit the button that moved the needle to center when I turned the machine back on... It had only been off fir a minute or teo..,

No way am I going to rip out those stitches...my vision just isn't up to it.

WHY? WHY would Brother create such a horrible design? I know I'm nit the only one who has complained about it... I usually have a sticky note on the machine...just to remind me, but it was not there yesterday....

So.... Here I am with a gift for a new baby, with bad quilting right in the middle... And it was going do well... I iniw the baby won't care, but I care.... The mom isn't a quiltlet, but her SIL...my neice...is... I feel like I have to send the quilt with an explanatory note...though I know I won't...

I'm just so angry.... What a stupid feature to build into what othewise is a good mavhines...

Aww wish I could help you out and rip them out for you. Is it just in one spot or all over?
Blessed are the children of the piecemakers for they shall inherit the quilts!

I am right there with you. I don't have this machine, but my friend has a Brother, and I ran into this problem when teaching her how to quilt. My daughter has a Brother, too, but I don't remember having this problem when I used her machine. I will recheck this when I next visit her.

It has that same feature on the one Brother I own also. Since I usually have the quarter inch foot on it, the needle will hit metal if I miss moving the needle over. It is so stupid and useless. It should be in the middle unless WE want to move it. I sympathize with you. Other than that I love the Brother machine. I get so used to the Juki's that when I move over to the Brother I forget. A LOT!

One of the women at the quilt shop I would go to has a Brother machine that does this. I heard her complain about it also. YES, I bet it is very frustrating.

Have you checked your manual or perhaps asked on forums pertaining to you machine if there is any way to change a setting that would override this issue? I had an issue with my machine (not the same as yours, but it annoyed me none the less) and finally learned that I could change it! I was thrilled. Just a thought. I feel your frustration!

My Brother has a default setting like yours, but you can reset the default. Check your manual to see if you can do this. It made a world of difference for me.
As to your quilt....we are our own worst critic, so do not stress over it. It looks cute.

I know this is totally frustrating for you, Sandy. Try putting a sticky note on the front of your machine reminding you to move the needle. I often have to do this for myself.

Yes, check the manual, my Babylock did this and it was simple to change the initial needle position setting.

Can you purchase a different foot that allows you
to use when your needle is in any position?
My Bernina foot allows any needle position.

Re: I am sooooo not happy!

Guys... I found a uTube video thst demonstrated a very easy fix to this problem on the Brither 430, which looks exactly like my Simplicity Professional... He had been told by Brither thst there was no fixing this redundant element...nut he found a way.

It was, minded, easy, but did not work on my machine... Rats....fir want if a better word....

I don't know anyone who quilts, or sews, with the needle positioned on the left...... I can see why you might position the needle thst why...for special stitches, or something...but I don't get why the left should EVER be a default position... It makes me want to get rid of this otherwise pretty nice machine..., I do put sticky notes on it, but they one times fall off..and more to the point, why should I need to remind myself to do something that on every other machine I've ever used has bern done for me?

                      Yep.., I'm still angry....

Forgot to add that Brither itself visions thst thus can't be changed....

Oh Sandy, so sorry this has happened to you. But your quilt is lovely.

I know first hand your frustration! I have several brother machines and love them, except for this strange left needle thing. I found this video to help you change your setting. I know it's not the exact machine you have, but I believe it should still work for you. Fast forward to about 4:15 in the video and he shows you how to do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xfq-GW88DsA Let me know if this works for you.

I see you found it too! Hooray!

Vickie.., thank you so much.... This is the same video I found.l.. I followed his directions...several times...but it won't work on my machine. His 420 looks exactly like my Simplucity...except that my Simplicity gas red trim....so I thought it would work... Evidently not... I just don't get it...

If I had understood this about the machine before I bought it, I don't thunk I would have bought it... But... My husband had just died...three months before....and I wad found stupid things.... As a bereavement minister I knew better than yo make a major purchase do soon, but did it anyway....

I have the 420 but haven't changed mine yet. Wasn't sure it would, I'll have to try. I knew that a setting could be changed since I have another brother that came from a dealer and the setting could be changed on it, and I did that years ago. I'm wondering if you hit the okay button after you put it in the memory pocket? Maybe check your manual to see if it can be done? Good luck to you. I had a much lower end Brother and the setting couldn't be changed and it was very frustrating. But seeing how your machine looks identical, I would think it must be possible.

How frustrating that must be, and I can't believe that the company doesn't know how inconvenient this is for its customers. And how awful you can't create a permanent setting that is right for you! Isn't that supposed to be the purpose of customizable settings?

I have a suggestion for you. Instead of using sticky notes that don't stay on your machine if you or a friend has a Dymo label maker make yourself a warning label and stick it on the front of your machine. The printing is bold and easy to read, and it won't fall off. And if you don't have someone with the Dymo machine, PM me and I will make you a reminder label and snail mail it to you.
