    quilts for wounded soldiers

I am looking for information on making small quilts for the wounded. There are several websites who distribute the quilts but I don't know which one to use. Each have different size requirements. This is different from the blocks we did for the Just One Star project earlier this year. Please share any information you have. Thank you

I'm not sure, but you might check out the website for Citizen Sam.

I'm not sure, but DH just said yesterday he read where they are closing Walter Reed Medical Center in D.C. It will be interesting to see where they will send our wounded. I didn't read the article.

I know someone on another forum that has a website for quilts for a VA Medical Center and she is collecting small quilts for them. She also does quilts for veterans children who are suffering from cancer.
      http://www.quilts4cancer.org (for the veterans children)

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Vegasvahospitalquilts (for veterans at the VA hospital in Las Vegas, NV. She likes red/white/blue but will take any quilts donated and also is collecting for womens vets who are wounded.)

http://community.webshots.com/user/barbquilts4cancer (where she has photos of the quilts in the past)

      her email is [email protected]

      hope this helps.

      Hugs,

Try googling Quilts of Valor. That was were I was gong to send mine. But the brother of the gal that does my hair was seriously injured in Afganistan and sent home after many surgeries and rehab. I sent mine to his home in Virginia. I immediately received a heartfelt thank you from him. I was happy I sent it to him. Shirley

I read that quilts of valor stopped accepting donations...at least for awhile....because they received so many large collections of donations that were contaminated by pet hair and scented laundry products. Have they started accepting donations again?

StitchingTime, you may be able to find info from your local VA hospital

Trish, they are closing Walter Reed & relocating to the campus of the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda Md. Seems like they may be a little crowded there doesn't it?
If at first you DO succeed, try not to look so surprised.

Oh thanks for letting me know where they will send the injured. I know there are other places to send them too, I just didn't have a chance to read up on the article yet.
There are too many wounded, that's for sure. Once I get a few small quilts made for the kids here in my County, I'll be working on hopefully a few to send out to Barb that I mentioned above.
            Have a great day all!
