I am in love with the kaliedascope (sp?) blocks but am too scared to every try one. They are lovely though.

    Re: New Dresden Plate

    Hi Glenda,
I don't know if this is a new version - seems like she came up with a new way to make a new pattern.
A few years ago I ordered precut triangles and squares to make a kalidelscope quilt. I got snowmen and lilacs. If you go to my album here, it shows you how I used the precut squares in the corners of the triangles that were sewed together to turn the block into a square one. It's number 22 in the list of photos. I turned them into a table runner or two. I took the lilac ones and decided to not use the squares and appliqued them onto a piece of fabric to use as a curtain. I have a few sewn on and a few more to go. It looks like her kalidelscope pieces are more rounded instead of the straight end of a triangle, so maybe that's why she is saying it looks like a dresden kalidelscope. Her templates probably look like a dresden shape - it is pretty neat to see the project ideas she came up with.
I wouldn't call mine a dresden cause of the straight sides and plus there is only 8 pieces in the finished piece, not the many pieces you end up with in a true dresden. I guess this is how the different blocks get their names though. Someone thinks of something new to put together with another idea and there it is!
    Hugs,

There is a quilt-block called One Block Wonder that is a similar theory to this. I don't know if the procedure is exactly the same. But they do make some amazing quilts. My Li'l Sis recently made one using a wild jungle print and when it was finished you couldn't tell what it started out to be. Amazing work. (Both my Li'l Sis, her work and the link you posted).
