    Online machine purchase

I am considering buying an embroidery only machine, possibly the Brother PE770, and wonder if your experiences with buying a machine online have been favorable and what is the best site to order from. Normally I would purchase from a LQS but it doesn't carry this particular model Brother machine.

Have you looked at the designio series, dz820? I have been looking at that one. Evidently it is the same machine but comes with some extras. Right now on amazon it's $650 and the 770 is $600. I might order from a dealer if there was one close by but the ones around here (closest is 45 min) don't want to carry any of the lower end machines. I love my brother pq1500 that I ordered from amazon.

I have that same machine and I bought it through Amazon. No problems with that transaction. I just bought and received a longarm that I bought through SewingMachinesPlus.com. No problem there either. I love my PE770. It does a decent job.

I purchased my Brother SE400 from Amazon. I got a good deal and a good machine although it is a bit of a gamble buying online, the deal made it worth the risk. I purchased my next machine - my Juki from a dealer a few towns over. This one was a more costly purchase and I wanted more protection on my purchase.

I don't have that machine, but I did order two of my machines online. One from Amazon and the other from Sewing Machines Plus. I had a positive experience with both places.

I ordered a Singer from Amazon and it arrived promptly. I took it out of the box and set it up. I was excited and ready to work with it. I went to wind a bobbin and there was no shaft for the bobbin to sit on. I called Singer and they said it was something that would have to be returned to the factory for repair, or they suggested I call Amazon and have them send me another machine.

I called Amazon and they had 8 of the models in the warehouse, but they were all returns due to problems with the machines. They didn't have any machines that were in operational order. The offered to send me a much nicer machine, but I would have to pay the difference. I sent the machine back and they refunded my money. I went to the local dealer who is about 45 miles away and have now bought two machines from him.

So check the machine and make sure everything is there and that it all works.

I just bought my serger from Walmart.com. They also sell that Brother embroidery machine. I got free shipping to my house but I could return the machine to the local store if I needed to (I didn't) so there was piece of mind there. I think as long as you can figure out how to use the thing on your own or through online tutorial there is nothing wrong with buying online. I wouldn't expect any local shops to bend over backwards to help run tech support for a machine you didn't buy from them but other than that I'd say go for it if you know that is the one you want.

Thank you everyone for your words of wisdom about buying online. I will probably go ahead and buy the machine online. The best price is on Ken's Sewing Center website. Others have given them high recommendations for being reputable and having excellent customer service. Again, my thanks to everyone. I knew I would get good advice here.

I've bought 3 machines on line and have had no problem. I got my Brother PC420 from Amazon, my Brother PQ1500 and Janome/Kenmore from All Brands. The only dealer we have nearby is Bernina.

                      Re: Online machine purchase

I bought my current machine from Sewing Machines Plus online because I saved over $1000 buying from them. I needed quite a bit of embroidery design transfer help in the beginning and they were wonderful. One person wouldn't let me off the phone until I totally understood what I was doing.

In general I think it's best to buy from a dealer, but my closest dealer is almost 3 hours away. ..ridiculous. I have done fine because I bought a Janome machine and I've used them for about 25 years or so. I think if you research the machine well and read reviews and get opinions here on the forum that you would be okay. We have a machine embroidery group here that's a great resource for help and questions.

Please, please, please tell me it wasn't the Singer Quantum Stylist which I just ordered on Amazon last night. I tried to buy that locally and my dealer said it is only carried by Amazon.
