        Re: "customized" machines

I saw a Featherweight website that customized those machines. One lady had a luxury car ( BMw. Or Mercedes) with a special blue metallic paint. She had her Featherweight painted to match her car! I have seen them painted John Deere green, metallic purple, you name it. It adds a couple if hundred bucks to the bottom line when they are repainted.

Gammill does that with their longarms! I could have purchased a purple one! My favorite color! Someone got before Me! Darn!

RE: Your second link. This lady was at the Sacramento Quilt Show last year and was just wonderful. She's quite an inventor. I had hoped to see her again this year and buy the FMQ hoop she invented, but (sob) she wasn't back this year. She lives in California, so I'm hoping to run into her at another show one of these days. I really liked her.

EDIT: My bad memory. She's in Arizona, not California.

I have seen stickers like clear but with a pattern (not like kids stickers) you can buy them to put on your machine, it was at a quilt show and they were on a long arm. I remember them being a bit pricey for me. I have thought about doing that since you can change them.
                has anyone else seen these?

I think if I had one these wonderful old machines I would paint it black and bring in one of those wonderful auto detailers to tattoo it.

Wow! I saw that but did not realize it went for so much money. I have seen them repainted in all kinds of colors. The 301 is my next vintage machine. My mom had one I learned to sew on and I have heard Bonnie Hunter speak highly of them.

I think I want mine all original - tan. My blue and pink Morse machines are original paint. There was an Arrow machine on ebay last week that was a two two tone copper and cream (original) - so pretty! I would have loved to get it, but it quickly went out of my price range.

                          Re: "customized" machines

I saw several Singer Featherweights at the Glendale Quilt Show that had been restored to the original condition. They also had a few with new paint jobs, candy apple red with metal flake, lime green metal flake etc. They had put back the original gold detailing too. They were really pretty & very pricey. The lady selling them had an auto body paint company doing the work, just like if you got you car repainted.
                          But fun to look at

                              Re: "customized" machines

I think money spent painting my sewing machine which no one ever sees would be a waste of money that I could have spent on fabric.
One of my other hobbies, cycling, did result in me stripping down a frame and repainting it.

                              Before:

^fixed gear. one speed, no coasting.

                              After:

It was supposed to be "coral snake" but everyone says, "cool Maryland bike!" so I just go with it.
Loosely based on a true story.
