I didn't know how to title this or where to put it so here goes. lol

I bought a pillow pattern a few weeks ago of a whale at one of my quilt shops. It was a kit but I replaced a bunch of the fabrics, picky me. Anyway, yesterday I ran across an Etsy seller with the pattern. I thought, oh how cool she has a shop. The names weren't matching up and I thought they were copied.

I go to my quilt shop today to replace one of the fabrics and said I just found her shop. This is the owners daughter I'm talking to. I said is someone stealing her patterns?

She said she is a bit of a (hate to say it ) ditz and thinks she's being taken advantage of. She sells them to the shop for $4.50, they sell it for close to $9.50. The designer doesn't want to open an Etsy store so let's someone else take another $1.50 for each sale.

She thinks her business is making pillow cases and not patterns. She doesn't want to ship or deal with anything.

I say learn how to do a pdf file and keep all the profit.

Wow - I think a pdf of the pattern and email it out to the buyers would be an easy thing to do. Maybe she could hire me to run her etsy store? LOL

I told the shop person, gosh I could do it for her, or at least set it up. Oh well, can't help everyone.

Wow... I did see Jenny's falling charms pattern being sold on etsy. I reported it and referred etsy to here. I know the shop sells the pattern as well. Maybe one day the woman will realize she's losing out, PDF would solve her shipping issue. Oh well

Etsy won't do anything about it.... They don't care, as long as they get their 3%. I had photos copied off my store and reported them and nothing was done. It's why I quit selling on etsy.

I just searched "falling charms" on there and at least 3 patterns came up. (Just noticed they're all the same seller)

Unless the pattern has a copyright there really isn't much anyone can do. You could look on craftsy and find the same pattern being sold by dozens of sellers. The seller on Etsy just changed the name to falling blocks. She also has Hugs and Kisses X & O quilt, stacked block, and rag quilt patterns. As much as we all love Jenny...not all the patterns and quilts she shows us how to make, are original to her. She shows us how to do them using pre-cuts and shortcuts. Just like the name of the quilts and patterns were changed for the Quilting Quickly magazine. That is the way things are, whether we like it or not.
