    What do you think?

I have a wonderful Sew 'Vac man (very small shop), who has just serviced my two Janomes.

When I went to pick up the Jem Platinum, Doug showed me this....when I asked him to let me know if he ever got an old Singer in....

It is a Singer 6212....a heavy duty machine.... He will sell her to me fir $65. It has been serviced, of course, and looks new....

Should I go for it? It has a great review on patternreviews.com.... Oh, and it has a top loafing bobbin case... And it is about 30 years old.

I don't see why not. It's such a great price. I have four machines, they all are for different things, so it's nice to have a back up around.

I would if that was the machine you were looking for. However, if it was a featherweight or something like that you were looking for, this would not be the machine for you. I think it is a good price. My friend who sold me the featherweight had one of these too, but I passed on it. It was heavy to be toting around places I thought. Besides which, I already have my big Singer, my Pfaff 1471 and the Audrey, plus the featherweight.......it did look like a good machine when I looked at it. Nice and solid.
      pat.

He had avFeatherweight for $350... Too much for me.

My Jem is my backup..... But, I thought it would be fun to sew on an oldie... It's a very solid machine..... Something to think about....

I would Sandy, if only for the fact that it's old. It's lovely to have an old working machine.

I mentioned elsewhere that I have a Brother Compal Galaxy 870 and it's now a collectible. It's nearly 30 years old and it still talks to me too, lol. I wouldn't part with it for any amount.
I'm not a complete idiot.....some pieces are missing!

I think you should bring in some fabric (different kinds) and thread. They should let you thread it, wind a bobbin, and try it out on your fabrics. It will either speak to you or it won't. If it speaks to you, it wants to go home with you, and you should adopt it.

What a great idea.... I'll do that. I know Doug will let me test drive her.... You are right... I believe a sewing machine will speak to you, just as fabric does.... It either does, or it doesn't..... Thanks for reminding me of that.

I had a Singer very similar to that. It never did die. I lost it in a move, but while I had it, I sewed a little bit of everything on it.

$65.00 is like just paying the servicing fee and getting the machine for free! I adopted my 99 that way and never regretted it. I also agree you should take it for a test drive but I bet it will go home with you.

OK... You guys have convinced me to take her for a test drive.... Maybe tomorrow... I just think owning a classic Singer would be cool...

Anyway let us know what you decide to do.
Funny story ..I was once humming and hawing over something in an antique store and made the mistake of telling my sister about it...well her reply was"if you don't go back and buy it I will". The thought of HER getting it sent me running back to the store!!
