    Ruler storage

Thanks to MSQ, I'm accumulating lots of rulers and templates. They have outgrown the drawer that I was using and my pegboard is full. Would love to hear how others store these items.

I have a narrow section of wall (4 ft x 8 ft) beside the door where I hung cup hooks from top to bottom spaced appropriately to accommodate different size rulers. This has worked well because I can see all of them and easily choose whichever one I need. Initially I had them stacked in a drawer and continually had to go through them all to find what I needed.

I will be interested also in reading other thoughts. Right now I have my smaller ones in a ziplock bag. No good organization for the larger ones.

A letter holder or napkin holder works pretty well. Check out the office organization area the next time you are at an office supply store or Walmart. You can also get pegboard hooks that stick out further and have multiple hanger thingies.

I had my DH make me a ruler rack. It has grooves in it, so I can stand my rulers in it. It sets on my work space easy to reach when I need to use one of them. If you have a lot of rulers just put the ones in it you use the most of. I also have him make extras' so I can give them as gifts to my Secret Pal at the end of the year.

The small templates I have in one of those plastic rolling drawer units. The larger rulers are stacked against the cabinet that sits at the end of my sewing table. All I have to do is reach down and grab a ruler when I need it.

Check my sewing room album for a pic of an enameled wire rack I have mounted on my cabinet. Also, I have the couple I use most hanging from a small wire 3m hook on the side of my cutting table and I think a magazine rack mounted to a wall or table would also work well for all but the shortest and tallest ones.

l have a basket that is 24 x 4 inches that sits on a shelf in my closest, I can put them in there standing up and just file through them when I need one. I can sit it on my cutting island or put it away... either works.

Well short and easy...put up nails above cutting area and hang them.

I don't have wall space to hang rulers. I bought one of those cupboard organizers that is designed for kettle lids. The rulers store vertically in the slots. I keep it on the floor by my cutting table where I can grab whichever ruler I need. My small templates or rulers usually just sit on my cutting table. JCY

They hang over my head. Mine is a rustical wooden ceiling, and I put some nails in the beams that hold rulers and other notions just above my cutting area.

I'm with Claire! The office supply store has many things useful for sewing. Letter stands, wire file multi holders, paper spikes for bobbins and reels of ribbons. Scrapbookers have hinged metal rings about 2" across that you can hang half a doz rulers on each if your hooks or pegboards fill up....

Zhould add, any specialty templates or smaller rulers that come with instructions I place tog in plastic sleeves in a folder. And try to discipline myself to put them back

I bought Command hooks and hung them on the wall next to my cutting table. I can see them all and they're handy.
