    Electric Blade Sharpener??

    Hi folks
After reading on one of Bubby's threads about the sale at Connecting Threads , I remembered seeing one of those electric sharpeners for rotary blades. The sale is a good price but since I am skeptical kind of gal, can anyone tell me if they have one of these and do they work?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm pretty sure that is the one that Sandy recommends.

Amazon.com: TrueSharp Power Rotary Blade Sharpener: Arts, Crafts & Sewing

Amazon has them at a good price as well so that you aren't pressured into making a quick decision because of a sale.

That is exactly the one I have . . . well, not THE exact one. I am very happy with it. However, not all blades can be sharpened easily. I spent several hours a few weeks ago sharpening all the blades I had in the 'que' and some worked well, but some didn't. I have found that there is one major issue with the blades working or not and that is my STUPID cutting mat - the large roll-up one from JoAnns has about hit it and the grooves catch and keep the blade from cutting well and often catches and nicks the blade . . . do I spring for the expensive self-healing mat or not?

I hope it works well. I don't know about everyone else but i go through blades like..., well you know. Blades are expensive.

I just bought the manual one and hope to receive it soon. Hope it works since as you say, blades are expensive.

I just read this. The answer is yes, get the mat. If you really want a nice one, get the Martelli mat....use the 50% off coupon that comes around. That white mat RUINED my blades like right now! They did not stay sharp at all! Any self healing mat is nice, but the Martelli is twice as thick and the lines are as accurate as a ruler...I really really like it.

My DBF gave me the TrueSharp for Christmas. I agree with Sandy. It works well on most of my dull blades; however some seem to be beyond sharpening for whatever reason. I think that is a blade problem and not the sharpener problem. It is still extending the life of most of my blades and I am very happy with it. Just make sure you sharpen for the full 30 seconds on each side to get the maximum benefit.

This is all good information. I have the white roll up mat as well and love the size of it. It is starting to get "groovy". Where do you buy the Martelli mats and where do you find the coupon?

for the coupons, you sign up on the email list , the Redline Direct, is the one that has a sale a couple of times a year and there is a 50% off coupon. I do get 15% and 20% off coupons monthly and I've heard folks buying mats at quilt expos on the last day for very cheap. Love their rotary cutters and I do have a few of those squares for cutting and they DON'T slip at all! Watch their video's, it explains a lot. Now I'm curious about their binding tools.

I have the TruCut sharpener and yes it works quite nicely. I bought mine on Amazon and it is worth every penny, IMHO!
