What do you think?

I'm squaring up a star block so star points are at the edge. Is it more important to have a perfect square but sacrifice the points. Some of my points will disappear into the border if I square up. I know - must be inaccurate sewing but it's those bias seams that seem to cause the problem. Probably should have used the starching method mentioned so many times on the forum. Too late now

I'd keep the points and not worry about square unless its way off. A little unsquare no one will notice unless you point it out.

Edited to add, I just had my coffee and reread this. Its a block your talking about. I'd try to keep the points as long as everything fits together with it being out of square. For some reason, I was thinking quilt top, not a block. I need to learn to keep my mouth shut until the caffeine kicks in.

I agree with the others. I've had this problem before & found that missing points are more noticeable than slightly out of square blocks. You can often fudge on that but stretching one block to fit the next when you sew them together.

I agree. Sometimes if my seam is going to be fairly small in a spot (1/8" for example) where I'm crossing a point I'll backstitch there just to give it extra protection from possibly having a fraying seam. I might even do a tiny zigzag in that spot. I think it's better to keep the point if at all possible.

I think it is better to save the points. After your quilt is washed and all crinkly the out-of-square blocks will not be very obvious, but washing and crinkling will never bring the points back.

I put my pinwheel shoo fly blocks together and LOTS of points were gone! I will be much more careful in the future to make sure they are preserved, not at all happy with the results of this. It was my first attempt, and definitely a learning curve on this block! Something for the dogs, cats ir grandkids to use when it is finished.

I would keep the points, but i have added points to a 5 point star just to keep a square. seems after all this time i still dont know what squares are. I say go with what YOU like.
