kitchen wall hanging

my BIL just called and asked if I could make him a wall hanging for his kitchen. He has been redoing rooms in the house and the kitchen is almost done. It will be large, about 5'x3', or there abouts. Colors are maroon, white, and ????. Right now I have no ideas in my head what pattern to choose.
Does anyone have any ideas for this.

What are his interests? You could do a window pane type quilt with picture panels highlighting something he enjoys (ie: fishing, golf, skiing, etc.) Or, a mini big star quilt pattern might be nice. I'm thinking Tan might go well with your Maroon and white.

I'm thinking by what he said he isn't wanting a picture quilt, but*****. A big star might work, with small star border down the sides to make it more a rectangle instead of square.
Good ideas, keep them coming. Now my brain is kicking in with ideas.

I was also thinking tan would be nice with maroon & white. So would gold or blue, unless you think that's too patriotic-looking. If it's going to be a rectangle, maybe you could do a sampler-type thing (take a look at the bed runner HandsomeRyan and his wife made). Have fun - can't wait to see what you come up with!

I was also thinking the big star I just made my dil a table topper with it for her kitchen.
