I have the Babylock Crescendo, it has a 11.25 throat, love it! Few other models do, too. I couldn't believe the difference that couple inches made.

    I have a Janome 12000 and the throat space is 11or 11 1/2 inches.

I've done king and queen size on my brother free motion. I love the foot that came with it. I think the brother is great for an introductory machine, not too expensive. I have had mine less than a year. Someday I might want something different but for now I am loving it for piecing, fmq, everything except appliqué.

I have a friend who has the Juki and she also teaches fmq.....she is also the grand prize winner at the State Fair several times over. She does all the piecing and fmq on the Juki. They are nice for paper piecing too since they have thread cutters. Nothing fancy about it....does straight stitch and reverse, that is it.

I have a Viking 875Q that has a 9" to 10" throat and I have done some fairly large quilts on it. I am not a pro but my meandering or loopy doopy swirls work OK with it.
Besides the throat you need to be able to support the quilt from the sides and back to help get a good result with out too much neck/arm stain.

Can you fmq a bed size quilt? I would love to do that but it's a pain on a small machine!

The Juki 2010i has a large throat. I have a Singer that has about 9", but I'd rather have that Juki.
