    So disappointed.

I have a large cutting mat on my cutting table. But for traveling and to use at camp in the summer I have an 18x24 mat. I'm always afraid it will get damaged in transit. The other day at Joann's I bought a mat case that zips all the way open. One side is a gridded ironing mat and the other side has a large pocket for a mat and smaller pockets for rulers and other tools. It was somewhat rigid offering great protection. It was just perfect except for one thing. Most mats have a bit of a border, mine included, which makes it 19x25. The case can only accommodate up to 18.5. UGH!!! And it was 50% off too.

I bought the same case and promptly took it back when I discovered the mat didn't fit. I ended up making my own and like it much better. I made the handles long enough I can wear it "cross body", which is nice when my hands are full.

I bought this one Omnigrid Fold-Away Cutting Station at Joann.com and really like it. I took it to the forum retreat last year and it worked great and I had enough room to slip my large 12.5" ruler in the case with it.

Looks like making one would pretty easy! A piece of foam core slipped inside the one pocket would keep it fairly rigid. What else would work that wouldn't add much weight and yet keep it from bending?

I made my mat holder last year for the Eleanor Burns seminar I attended. Made it out of extra chevron blocks from a quiltI made. I needed to make it long enough to accomodate the handles and border of my mat.

Yup, that is the one that I choose and it works ... ok. for classes, not an everyday cutting / iron station.

The girls that come to my classes have made their own similar to Jeans with pockets for their rulers and cutters.

I would think a quilted tote that is cut a bit bigger than the mat would suffice. It's probably not really necessary to add a stiffener. To be able to carry other things in the same tote, an outside pocket that has velcro as a closure would work to hold those other items.

I made Jenny's large tote bag and because you can make as large as you want, it's perfect for a cutting mat tote. I love mine
