Rotary mat where to store it???

For those of you who have to store your rotary mats, where do you put them? I bought a 36x24 olfa rotary mat that I can not figure out where/how to store. My small 18x24 inch mat is stored in the box that it came in when my Grandma bought it many years ago. I really don't have a place to leave the mat out, under the bed will not work. I am tempted to make a storage box like the smaller mat is in to protect it. Then becomes the question of where to put it. Any suggestions or ideas of what you do?

Good question. I have the same problem. Looking forward to seeing how others have overcome it.

I store mine behind my couch. It keeps it straight and its able to rest against the wall.

I hang mine on one of those command hooks so they stay nice and flat and if I need to move them there isn't a hole in the wall to patch. Just make sure you keep it away from any heating vents or they will warp.

I store mine UNDER the sofa on the floor ... but you'd have to have a sofa style with a skirt. If you store upright, be sure it stays straight up. If it buckles or slouches, it will warp. My mother had a separate harvest table and just kept her mat on the top of it. Not an option if you don 't have a dedicated sewing room.

I have an 18 x 24 that stands upright between my desk and storage unit nice and flat . and the 36 x 24 stands upright next to a big cabinet. both are straight and have been stored this way for many years with no issues. The smaller one is 20 years old with no issues except wear.

I have a rolling island of sorts that tucks under my counter so i can just store it flat on that. I 'designed' the room about 3 months before I took up quilting...so I had I known I'd be using the room for sewing I would have made the island top just a few inches bigger to be the exact size of the cutting mat! One day maybe I'll get a new top for the island! If I didn't have this option I would definitely go the route of Cil - I have all my rulers and templates hanging from Command hooks. They are awesome!!!! Just make sure you get one large enough to support the weight of the mat. There are ratings on the back of the package.

I hang mine on the wall behind the sewing room door. I just put a picture hanger in the wall and I can hang two mats at the same time and they stay nice and flat.

I either leave mine on my cutting table or hang it on my pegboard. It stays nice and flat.

I keep mine on on my sewing table when I'm not sewing. When in do sew I lay it on my bed out of the way. It's a bit of a hassle when I need to use it when I'm in the midst of sewing because I have to scooch my machine over to put the mat back on the table.

I store mine upright and flat against the wall, sandwiched between the wall and my fabric stash.

I am a NUT about my mats. I have four (one spinning, one 18"X24" and two 24" X36"). They are so expensive and I am so afraid they will warp that I store them flat, stacked from largest to smallest. Fortunately, I have ample counter space in my laundry room so they have a designated space. But I'm constantly moving the stuff my husband tries to put on top of them. I would not store them any way but flat.

I have an enormous one that is something like 45" x 54". I stand it up behind a bookshelf.

I use a long skirt hanger, the kind where two thin strips of wood clamp together, and I hang mine in a closet that always stays cool.

I have 2 tables in my room..6' banquet tables. One I have my machine on and the other is right behind me where I have my iron and pressing board. The pressing board stays there, and is perfect for just sliding my cutting mattes underneath it! Keeps them protected and flat and I just pull them out when I need them, slide them back under when I am done. A perfect set up in my opinion!
