I love Grandmother Flower Garden quilts and decided I would make one on my own. Well at the rate I'm going, I'm thinking I started this thing about 25 years too late. I've made three flowers and I know there is no way. I think I'll some pillows out of these. I am in complete awe of those you who have finished one of these. It must have taken a billion hours to finish. A big Hee Haw salute to you!

Re: Not is this lifetime!
I have a Grandmother's Flower Garden (I think . . . ) that my Grandmother started. You make me want to get it out and see why she stopped working on it!!Sometimes, when there's a raging fire,
it's best not to try to put it out with gasoline.

I have a book that has templates for the Grandmother flower garden that can be sewn in rows without the paper piecing. I have not tried it yet but makes it much easier I think. It is for a small project.
Book is:

I'm going to check this out, Blondie. I paper piece every now and then and I'm trying to imagine how that would work with the flower garden.Originally posted by Blondie View PostI have a book that has templates for the Grandmother flower garden that can be sewn in rows without the paper piecing. On Eleanor Burns' list of videos she demonstrates how to make "Grandmother's Flower Garden" by using fusible interfacing and doing applique to apply it to the background square. Very clever and looks great! Talk about easy by comparison. The fusible interfacing can be purchased with the pattern printed onto it.
I have really enjoyed watching her videos and still have quite a few left to watch. Very informative and quite entertaining. She's a real character!Goodbye Europe! Hello California! Home sweet home.

Re: Not is this lifetime!
I have a Grandmother's Flower Garden that my mother started working on in the 1960's. Talk about a long-term project. She gave up on it and gave it to me a long time ago. I used to take it with me to my stitching group when I needed some hand sewing. I bought fabric to add as a border. But I have had it packed away for years now. You might inspire me to get it out again. I love hand quilting, but hand sewing, not so much.

Re: Not is this lifetime!
I'm so happy to have the Grandmother's Flower Garden my great-grandmother Lorena made, hanging in my kitchen. Inheritance was definitely the only way I'd get a full size GFG.
She also made a Double Wedding Ring that I'll inherit someday. She made them both during and after the depression and my mother tells me that she never sat down without some type of "hand work", usually crochet. I wonder how long it took someone that skilled to do in her "free time".There's still time to change the road you're on - Led Zeppelin, "Stairway to Heaven"
